Loneliness

Keira returned to the table and watched as Arius ate his toast. It was unusual for her to see Arius eating, so it caught her attention. Soon, he noticed and looked at Keira, causing her to avert her gaze from him.

"Everything all right?" He asked and stood up.

"Yeah." Keira nodded.

But she wasn't alright.

Keira wondered why she heard Zaid's voice earlier and what it meant. Could she feel that guilty for killing him?

She felt a little guilty, but not so much that she could hear him talking in her head. The only logical explanation for it was that she felt simply tired of everything. Arius's constant friendship with Anastasia added even more concerns and confusion to the already complicated situation Keira was struggling with.

"Would you like to help me in the lab?" Arius asked, his hand sliding down Keira's arm before gently intertwining his fingers with hers. "I might need your assistance."

"Gladly."

They went to the lab, and Arius pulled the blanket away from Zaidh's body. He seemed just as they had left him, with no signs of decay, indicating that the spell worked properly. Arius brought a case with blood formulas. Three of them were samples of the formula he gave Keira.

"I will try reviving him with the formula first," Arius said as he poured the blood from the vial into Zaidh's mouth. "If that doesn't work, we will use the resurrection ritual."

"How long do we have to wait?"

"Usually, the change begins in twenty-four hours." Arius shrugged and crossed his arms across his chest. "This formula is different from the usual one because it was designed for you. I have never given it to anyone else."

"Oh, okay." Keira smacked her lips. "Well, are you sure it's going to work? Is the formula still good after I messed up all the magic?"

Arius raised an eyebrow at Keira because she was right. He wasn’t sure if the formula was still working, but he decided to try because performing the ritual was not an easy task, especially for Keira, who had just returned from the blackout.

They went back into the apartment, and Arius wondered what he could do to make Keira feel better. Finally, he came up with the idea that perhaps Keira would want to go out in the city.
She was standing near the window and glanced outside. The foggy October morning gave Keira that spooky autumn vibe, and a slight smirk crept across her face.

Keira loved autumn, and especially October.

"Want to go out for a coffee?" Arius wrapped his hands around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"Pumpkin patch?" She gave him a glance over her shoulder. "I missed it last year."

"Sure. Get ready." He kissed her cheek, prompting Keira to turn around and place her hands on his shoulders.

They gazed at each other before Arius slowly pulled her closer, their lips meeting in a tender kiss. The urge to bite him flashed through Keira's mind, and she pulled away instantly.

Keira sadly smirked at Arius and went to the bedroom to change. As she glanced at her reflection in the mirror, she noticed how different she looked now: paler and more lifeless than before. And It irritated her.

She thought of Ana. Her beautiful brown skin, long, curly hair, and a perfectly sculpted body. She was beautiful as a human, which made Keira feel a pang of jealousy. Arius is human now, so Keira thought that he would prefer a human by his side rather than a hybrid who is half-dead.
