On the way towards the cafe, Kaito mentioned that Shinichi talked about the case he just solved before they met in the grocery store. Shinichi is happy that he can talk about this kind of stuff to someone other than Heiji. He might not have noticed, but even though he isn't smiling, his eyes shine as he talks about the case.

Of course, Kaito noticed this and was really happy to see Shinichi happy when he talks about the things he did. He is also admire at how Shinichi solved the case, even though it's just a small thing that many people won't bother to look at. It can extremely help Shinichi, and he wishes he could see it himself in the future, and he's sure he will.

And also from this day, he made a mental note that Shinichi is now his 2nd favorite detective, of course his Tantei-kun is 1st, no one can change that.

"So cool! You must've looked really cool there. I wish I could see it myself, you're really a great detective. No wonder you are called Heisei Holmes, and I swear you're a lot smarter and better than that Hakubastard," Kaito stated amaze at shinichi, but frown as he feels annoyed just thinking about that British detective.

"You really don't like him, huh?" Shinichi stated as he blushes a bit at Kaito's compliment, but he sweatdrops when Kaito called Hakuba a bastard. Well, he can understand Kaito's dislike towards the British detective because he finds him annoying too. He remembers the time when he was Conan during a KID heist, that's when Hakuba met him again, but this time in a KID heist.

"What is a child doing here?!! This is a job for adults, not just any child!" Hakuba stated half-shouting. Well, he's lucky that Conan respected him as a fellow detective and Sherlock Holmes fan, or else he will receive a soccer ball of doom straight to his face.

You could say Shinichi dislikes Hakuba too, but not as much as Kaito hates hakuba. He still respects Hakuba as a fellow detective and Sherlock Holmes fan.

"Well, yeah, I don't like him. He's too annoying and arrogant, unlike you. You're really different from him, Shinichi, you're one of a kind," Kaito stated as he smiled at Shinichi, who stopped walking. Kaito noticed this and asked him why he stopped. "What's wrong, Shinichi?"

"You know, I was arrogant in the past too and really spoiled. I acted like I was better than anyone else, im also selfish. so I'm really no different than Hakuba-kun," Shinichi stated as he looked down, and Kaito was silent. No one spoke. Shinichi decided to look up at Kaito and saw that he's smiling.

Shinichi is confused on why he is smiling, so he asks him, "Why are you smiling?"

"Well, Shinichi, you admitting that you were arrogant means that you've already changed, and even Hakuba didn't really realize how arrogant he is. This shows how much you are better than him, and like you said, you were only like that in the past, right? So, you don't have to worry about that. And also, as much as I hate to admit this, I was arrogant in the past too, you know," Kaito said as he put his arm on Shinichi's shoulder, while Shinichi blushes at this action.

"But I realize this and I tried to change that, at least a little," Kaito stated as he whispered the last part so Shinichi wouldn't hear it, but unfortunately, Shinichi heard it, but decided not to mention it.

Kaito smiled at Shinichi, then removed his arm from his shoulder and held his hand again, pulling him as they walked like how he did earlier.

"Come on, let's go. We're almost there," Kaito stated with his silly grin plastered on his face. Shinichi stared at him before smiling at Kaito, who is shocked but smiled back.
