The London night was crisp and cool as Taehyung returned to his hotel suite, the city's lights casting a soft glow through the large windows. He had spent the evening navigating through a delicate balance of hope and fear—hope for a miracle from his doctor, and fear of the reality he was fighting to face. The business dinner, meant to be a distraction and an opportunity to advance King's Company, had felt hollow compared to the storm brewing inside him.
He stepped into the suite, exhaustion settling into his bones. The silence was a welcome relief after the constant buzz of the dinner. He dropped his briefcase by the door and sighed deeply, ready to strip away the day's burdens.
But as he flicked on the lights, his breath caught in his throat. Jungkook was standing by the window, his silhouette sharp against the city's luminescence.
"Jungkook?" Taehyung's voice was strained with surprise and confusion. "What are you doing here?"
Jungkook turned slowly, his face shadowed with an intensity Taehyung had rarely seen. "I should be asking you that," he said, his voice low and controlled. "What are you doing here, Taehyung?"
Taehyung blinked, caught off guard. "I...I had a business meeting. What's going on?"
Jungkook's jaw tightened, and he took a step forward, the anger simmering in his eyes. "You had a business meeting? Is that all? Do you really think you can just slip away without telling me? Without even letting me know you're in London?"
Taehyung's pulse quickened. "I didn't think it was a big deal," he said, his voice defensive. "I had to see my doctor, and since I was here, I took the opportunity to meet with some investors. I didn't want to worry you."
Jungkook's eyes flared. "Not a big deal? Tae, you're in London to see a doctor about your tumor, and you think that's not a big deal? What if something happened to you? What if I hadn't found out?"
Taehyung's composure, always his armor, began to crack. "I didn't want to burden you. I can handle this on my own."
Jungkook's fists clenched at his sides. "Handle this on your own? How do you think it felt to hear from Jin that you were here, in London, and you didn't even think to let me know?"
Taehyung's chest tightened, a mix of guilt and frustration bubbling up inside him. "I don't need to tell you everything, Jungkook! I can take care of myself."
Jungkook's anger boiled over. "No, you don't need to tell me everything. But this isn't just about you. It's about us. It's about me being there for you. You don't have to do this alone, and it hurts that you think you do."
Taehyung's face hardened, his eyes narrowing. "Don't act like you care about me, Jungkook. You don't even love me anymore."
Jungkook recoiled as if struck, his expression shifting from anger to shock. "How can you say that?" he asked, his voice cracking. "Of course I love you. I'm here because I love you. I'm terrified of losing you."
But Taehyung's defenses were up, his voice rising with a bitter edge. "If you loved me, you wouldn't be acting like this. You wouldn't be questioning me at every turn, making me feel like I can't even breathe without your permission."
Jungkook's eyes filled with pain, his voice trembling. "Tae, I'm not trying to control you. I just...I don't want you to go through this alone. I want to be there for you."
Taehyung's stoic demeanor shattered. His usually composed self crumbled, and tears welled up in his eyes. "I didn't want you to see me like this," he choked out, his voice breaking. "I'm scared, Jungkook. I'm so scared."
Jungkook's anger melted away, replaced by a deep, aching concern. He crossed the room in a few swift strides and pulled Taehyung into his arms, holding him tightly. "Oh, Tae," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You don't have to be strong all the time. You don't have to face this alone."
Taehyung clung to him, the tears spilling over and flowing freely down his cheeks. "I'm sorry," he sobbed, his shoulders shaking with each word. "I'm so sorry."
Jungkook held him closer, his heart breaking at Taehyung's vulnerability. "It's okay," he murmured, his lips brushing against Taehyung's hair. "We'll get through this together. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere."
For a long moment, they stood wrapped in each other's arms, the world outside their suite forgotten. The strength Taehyung had been holding onto so tightly gave way to the comforting presence of Jungkook, his fears and anxieties easing in the warmth of his embrace.
"I'm here for you," Jungkook whispered again, his voice a soothing balm. "Whatever happens, we'll face it together. Just promise me you won't shut me out again."
Taehyung nodded, the tears finally beginning to subside. "I promise," he whispered, his voice trembling but resolute.
As they stood there in the quiet room, the lights of London twinkling outside, they found a new sense of unity. In the face of uncertainty and fear, they drew strength from each other, their bond deepening with every shared breath. The weight of secrets and unspoken fears lifted, leaving them with a renewed resolve to face whatever came their way, together.
