Charlotte
After two days in Florida, my publisher and I officially finished my book, now set to release in a few months.
I wake up, looking around, knowing it's the last time I'll be in this apartment for a while. I repack my bags, throwing in a few new outfits from the closet, and then head out.
As I drive along the many highways and main roads, I arrive at the familiar house. I hop out of the car and knock on the door.
"Charlotte!" my mom says, surprised as she opens the door.
"Hi, Mom," I say. My mom and I have only really talked over text since I left.
She ushers me in, and I'm met with the same layout as I left.
"I see nothing's changed," I laugh.
"Yeah, I couldn't fathom changing anything," she says.
We continue to converse, catching up. I head back out to grab my bags and bring them upstairs. I open my door and am instantly met with so many memories.
I look around the room: old photos of me and Logan, photos of my dad and me, family photos, my old notebooks on the desk, and mementos from school. I pick up the old photos of Logan and me and put them in my backpack.
Back downstairs, I join my mom to watch TV, and we chat. She talks about how she's tried to meet other men but none of them measure up to my dad, saying it wouldn't feel right to replace him.
I nod. "If that's what you want, then that's fine, as long as you're happy."
"Did you want to order in for dinner?" she asks.
"Sure," I nod.
We decide to DoorDash Chinese food, and when it arrives, we eat and chat more.
"Soooo, what's this I'm hearing about you and Logan from the media?" she asks me.
"You still follow Motorsports media?" I ask.
She nods.
"Well, we're dating. We're just not going to confirm it with the media for now," I say.
She nods again. "I knew you two would end up together."
I laugh, and we continue eating. After we clean up, we both head off to sleep.
Before I fall asleep, I pack my bags, knowing I'd be leaving mid-morning. As soon as I'm done, I lay on my bed and fall asleep.
