Chapter Thirty- Seven
My heart pounds against my chest as Xander lead Sam, Lucky and me through the tunnels underneath the castle.
He asked Lucky and Sam to be my guards a few moments ago and of course they were more than happy to do so. Now, he's leading us through the tunnels that lay beneath the castle, said that he had to show us something important.
The stone walls are suffocating me with each step. The air too musty and thick, causing me to keep coughing.
There's no electricity in the halls, but lit torches lining the walls. The smoke from the flames was not helping the air quality either. I cough again, covering my mouth and nose with my arm.
"I'm sorry. It gets better over there." Xander whispers, he might as well spoke normally with how silent it is down here.
None of us speak as Xander pulls us through the maze. Eventually we're met with a metal door with a similar lock as the ones that kept me in the bunkers.
My breath catches and my feet stumble under me. Xanders arm circles my waist as my head spins.
"You're okay." He says softly. "You're safe."
It takes a moment for my head to stop spinning. For my thoughts to understand that I'm safe, before I mumble, "I'm sorry."
"Never apologize." Sam speaks up, gently rubbing my shoulder. "We understand."
Xander watches me, making sure I was okay before he turned towards the door, "Please keep your voices down."
The lock slides, the sound bouncing down the hall.
He opens the door, then steps aside for us to see what lay on the other side.
My breath catches in my throat and Sam lets out a soft gasp. Lucky was the one to step forward, a smile spread across his face, "Wow."
"Why..." Sam frantically looks to Xander, her curls bouncing besides her cheeks.
I take a step closer.
In the room before us was multiple groups of dragons eggs. All separated by color and size.
Constance growls, almost shaking my entire body.
"My father was making an army." Xander answers Sam quietly. "I found his notes this morning."
"There's so many." Lucky says, he goes to step into the room but Xander grabs his arm.
"They're due to hatch soon, it's better if we don't go in there right now."
Lucky's eyes widen, "Soon?" He whispers, backing up a step and leaning against the stone. "What are you going to do with them?"
Xander glances between us, "I have an idea, but we can't let anyone find out about this."
Constance growls again, this time causing me to stumble a step. "All of those eggs belong to us!"
Lucky scratches the back of his neck, "How are we going to hide them?"
"I don't think we should keep them." I mumble.
Xander shakes his head, "I don't think so either."
"So we have to bring them to the hatching grounds?" Lucky asks, slumping against the wall. "Dragon eggs are very heavy."
"Atlas is pissed." Sam mumbles, glancing between us.
"So is Octavia." Xander sighs, "We will start bringing them out tonight. We can't let word get out about it, so we have to wait till everyone is sleeping."
