———————————————"What's wrong?" my mom asked, I could see the panic rising in her chest and it started to make me worry even more.
"Help me onto my back." I demanded.
The doctor hesitated for a moment before speaking. "It's just... you were expecting a boy, right?"
"Yes, why?" I responded, my voice tight with worry.
The doctor smiled reassuringly, holding up the baby. "Well, congratulations, you have a beautiful baby girl."
There was a moment of stunned silence. Then, a wave of laughter and tears overtook me. "A girl?" I whispered, looking at Quincy, who was grinning from ear to ear.
"We have a girl," he repeated, eyes shining with love.
The nurse called out, "Time of birth: 4:44 PM on April 4th, 2020"
The nurses quickly cleaned off the baby, once I was settled, they placed my baby in my arms.
Quincy leaned in close, gently touching our daughter's tiny fingers. "She's perfect, Ryan," he murmured, voice full of awe.
I nodded, tears of joy still flowing. "She really is," I whispered back, feeling this overwhelming love.
My mom put her hand on my shoulder, with tears of joy in her eyes. "You did amazing, sweetheart," she said softly. "I'm so proud of you! Look at my beautiful granddaughter."
Looking around the room, it was all love and support. Jude and Kelcy came back in, hype as ever. Right behind them, Britt, and Amiyah walked in. "Where's my beautiful nephew?" Jude shouted, rushing over to see the baby.
I laughed, "Well, I don't know how it happened, but we have a girl."
They were all gagged, "How'd that happen?" Kelcy cracked, laughing and playfully jabbing Quincy in the arm. "Kye was supposed to get a play buddy."
"They still can be." I said.
"God made her so beautiful." Britt nodded enthusiastically. "You did it, Ryan. We're all so happy for you."
Amiyah, eyes getting misty, gently touched the baby's cheek. "She's precious," she whispered.
We all laughed and cried together, surrounded by love. "Thank y'all for being here," I managed to say through tears of joy.
As Quincy and I soaked in the moment with our daughter, the room buzzed with chatter and laughter. The nurse checked on us, making sure we were good and offering warm congrats.
"Do y'all have a name?" Kelcy asked.
Quincy and I looked at each other, "Well, no, 'cause we didn't expect a girl," I chuckled.
I softly traced my finger along our daughter's cheek, "Kali. That's what we'll name her. Kali Princess Brown."
"I'm feelin' it," Quincy said, kissing my lips.
"Aww, I love that 'K' name! It matches Auntie Kelcy!" Kelcy chimed in, rubbing Kali's little hand.
My mom took the baby from my arms. "Welcome to the world, pretty little Kali, my precious granddaughter."
A few hours later my dad, Kelly and DJ came back to visit and then everyone left, leaving Quincy and I alone with Kali.
As he was sitting in the chair beside me holding her, he looked up and me and asked, "Babe, how did you come up with her name so fast?"
"I don't know honestly. I thought about your mom, but I didn't wanna give her the same name because I feel like it's important for Kali to have her own identity. However, I wanted her to have something of your mom, so I gave her the same initials, "KP"."
I saw the tears form in Quincy's eyes, "Ryan, that's beautiful, thank you."
We kissed a few times before he pulled back. Handing Kali back to me, he pulled something outta his pocket. I wasn't really payin' attention, just lost in admiration of my daughter.
"Ryan."
"Yeah?" I looked up and he was on one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
