Since that night, Kiri and Kan had spent quite a bit of time together, they had visited the temple, strolled hand in hand after enjoying a picnic and indulged in lunch on Kiri's yacht. They had been out to dinner several times, stayed in for a movie night and cuddled on the couch, cooked together and slept in each other's arms after making love.

Kan only had two more weeks left with Kiri so they were making the most of every moment. They had spent more time with Phak and Klem and Kiri had also visited Kan's grandparents again for dinner. They hadn't exactly defined the relationship but nan and grandad were not backwards at coming forwards, they were both sharp as tacks.

Kiri had a business dinner approaching so he decided to invite Kan as his plus one, there would be dinner and dancing as well as a few speeches and Kiri was one of the speakers. Kan who was anxious to see Kiri in action readily agreed and went out with Phak to shop for the perfect suit considering he hadn't packed for those kinds of event's.

In the end he was measured for a classic tux which they assured him would be ready in time then he and Phak then went for lunch,

"I'm going to miss you when you go back", Phak said,

"why don't you bring Klem and come to stay at ours over Christmas? I know mum and dad would love to see you again and dad is always talking about your dad and the times they had when they were kids" Kan replied.

"Yeah,I guess we could consider it if my mum doesn't have plans for us all as a family? Phak added.

"bring your mum too, the more the merrier" Kan said.

"anyway, how is it going with you guy's?" Phak prompted.

"it is what it is Phak, I knew going in that it wasn't going to be a permanent thing, it's gonna hurt like crazy when I leave but still ..." Kan didn't really know how to respond.

"I think he really likes you though Kan, are you sure it's temporary?" Phak asked.

"we don't talk about it to be honest, he hasn't asked me to date him or anything but realistically, how could we date, we live thousands of miles away from each other" Kan added.

"I don't know mate, I just think there's something there" Phak continued and then they finished their lunch and decided to head back home.

Three days later Kan was in his room dressing for the function, Kiri was collecting him in half an hour and he couldn't help but be nervous. The dinner was quite up market with many of Thailand's elite's and he was a nobody in comparison but taking a deep breath and pulling at his cuffs and collar as he looked at himself in the full length mirror he had to admit he cut a dashing figure.

It wasn't long before grandad was calling him to say that Kiri was downstairs so he checked his appearance one last time before going to greet his date.

Noting that Kiri was also wearing a tux, nan and grandad made them both pose for photographs and Kiri loved every minute. Kan's family made him feel so welcome and he was becoming extremely fond of them. He had been to many business meetings, dinners and functions but there had never been anyone to make a fuss of him before and tell him he looked nice, it felt good.

Soon, they were travelling to the venue where Kiri said his personal assistant Pang would be waiting for them as he was also needed. Kan posed the question as to why Kiri hadn't just gone with Pang to which Kiri replied that he wanted Kan with him.

Reaching the venue they both climbed out of the car and walked towards the main entrance, it was a large function hall, brightly lit with crystal chandeliers. There were security on the door checking the guest's invitations and beyond them were serving staff carrying tray's of western style hor d'oeuvres and a choice of either champagne or cocktails.

Kan remembered the last time he had drank champagne with Kiri and couldn't believe it was only a few weeks ago. A waiter approached Kiri and he picked up two glasses holding one out to Kan then he put his hand to the small of his back and guided him through another set of doors where they began to mix and mingle.

Kiri introduced Kan as his plus one and everyone was very curious as to who the handsome young man was who had attended with 'the' MrJunphanatat then after about ten minutes another young man came rushing over and addressed Kiri,

"sorry I'm a bit late Kiri, the traffic was crazy" Pang apologized then noticed there was someone beside his boss.

"Kan, this is my assistant Pang" Kiri said and Kan held out his hand to the young man.

"a pleasure to meet you Pang" Kan spoke.

"likewise" Pang replied but the words seemed kind of forced, even so he took Kan's hand to shake.

"I have all the notes you need Kiri, you just need to do a final check and were good to go" Pang said completely ignoring Kan now.

"Kan, I just need to look over some paperwork, let me help you to our seats and I'll leave you with Pang for a short while" Kiri spoke.

They found their table and Kan sat down, Pang sitting in the seat reserved for Kiri then Kiri left to go in a quiet side room where he could look over his notes for the speech he was going to give later.

"so you are?" Pang asked Kan when they were left alone.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand the question" Kan asked.

"I just wondered what your relationship with Kiri was?" Pang elaborated.

"I'm here as his plus one" Kan answered taking his cue from what Kiri had been telling everyone.

"Ahhhh, Pang drawled, I didn't think you were his type ..." he said in a kind of derogatory manner.

"I'm sorry?" Kan said.

"well, Kiri usually dates famous celebrities, models and the likes but they never last more than a few dates" Pang added smugly

"I guess he has his needs ... I've been with him for many years, you wouldn't believe the people I've seen come and go ..." Pang shrugged and left the sentence hanging.

"I don't really think it's appropriate to be talking to me about your boss's private life" Kan added, feeling a bit like he had been punched in the gut.

"oh, I do apologise, I didn't mean anything by it" Pang said, a glint in his eye as if he knew his arrow had hit the mark.

Pang excused himself to say he was going to find a rest room even though Kiri has asked him to keep Kan company but Kan was a big boy, he didn't need anyone to hold his hand and certainly not that little creep. Kan didn't like the kid, he got bad vibes from him but it was only one night and he was here to support Kiri so he wasn't going to let his assistant get to him.

Kiri came back after about twenty minutes and asked Kan where Pang was to which Kan told him he didn't know and that he'd left a while ago.

"damn, I told him to stay with you, I'm sorry Kan, have you been very bored?" he asked.

"I'm ok Kiri, don't worry about me, you just do your thing" Kan added.

Kiri sat down and they chatted for a while until the room began to fill, the lights began to dim and dinner was served and Kan decided to just go with the flow and enjoy the delicious meal and as luck would have it, Pang didn't appear again to ruin his appetite.
