"Daddy?" Sophia mumbled as she walked into the bedroom.

Travis blinked his eyes open, quickly waking up at the sight of his four year old daughter standing in the doorway. He could see the tears brimming in her eyes and her little lip quivering as he rushed to her side.

Once she was safely tucked into the bed next to him, she seemed to relax a little. Or at least she was until a particularly loud clap of thunder seemed to shake the whole house. Sophia started to tremble, her tears beginning to flow as Travis held her close.

A few seconds later, her twin brother Henry came running into the room, immediately clinging to Travis as he climbed into the bed. Travis adjusted them slightly so that he was in the middle of the bed with a kid on either side of him. The storms were supposed to continue off and on all night, so he figured it would be easier to just all sleep together.

"Shh, it's okay my loves," Travis soothed as another clap of thunder sounded, "You're safe. I've got you."

"Daddy I'm scared," Henry whispered.

"I know, kiddo. Loud noises like thunder can be really scary. But we're nice and safe inside our house and we can all cuddle in the big bed tonight, okay?" Travis reassured them.

"I want Mommy," Sophia whined.

"Mommy coming home soon?" Henry asked hopefully.

This was the longest Taylor had ever been away from the twins, but she had no choice but to spend a few days in New York finishing up the new album. While they usually tagged along, this time she and Travis had decided it would be best for them to stay home, since they were finally settling in at preschool and they didn't want to risk starting back at square one after a week away.

"I miss Mommy too, but she'll be home in two more sleeps. And we can call her in the morning before she has to go work with Uncle Jack, okay?" Travis suggested.

"Okay Daddy," Sophia yawned, snuggling closer as another clap of thunder shook the house.

Travis gently brushed her blonde curls out of her face before kissing her cheek. He turned toward Henry, who had also scooted closer to rest his head against Travis's chest.

"You know, you two remind me so much of your Mommy right now. She gets a little scared when there's thunder too," Travis told them.

"Really?" Henry asked.

"Really," Travis promised, "In fact, I remember when I first found out that Mommy is afraid of thunderstorms..."

It was Taylor's second trip to Kansas City to visit Travis, but this time she would be staying at his house instead of a nearby hotel. Taylor had been looking forward to this all week, and she couldn't wait to fall asleep while wrapped safely in her boyfriend's arms.

Later that evening, they were both going about their typical nighttime to get ready for bed when a loud banging shook the house. Taylor jumped, whimpering slightly as Travis immediately raced to her side.

"Shhh Sweetie, it's just a thunderstorm," Travis soothed, pulling her into a hug.

"I'm sorry," Taylor mumbled, "Loud noises uhh... make me a little jumpy. I guess my brain always goes to 'creepy stalker' or 'deranged fan' instead of just a storm."

"I can't even imagine how scary that must be," Travis admitted, holding her closer, "But I promise you're safe here tonight, okay? I won't let anything happen to you."

They spent the whole night snuggled up close together, and Taylor found the steady beating of Travis's heart comforting as she tried to slow down her breathing and relax. It eventually worked, despite her continued flinching at every roar of thunder, and Taylor fell asleep curled up tightly in her boyfriend's arms.

By the time Travis finished the story, both Sophia and Henry were fast asleep. He gently kissed both of their heads before laying down himself, hoping to get a good night's sleep before another busy day of wrangling two small children.

"Goodnight my love bugs," Travis whispered softly as his own eyes began to close, "I love you both so very much."
