My dad didn't come home until 10:30. Cody was still there with me, like my dad asked. I was starting to for a little bit better, and my fever went down to 99.2. I would probably be better by tomorrow thank God!
"Hey Ryan, how are you feeling?" My dad asked and gave me a kiss on the forehead.
"Better than this morning!" I say.
He turned to Cody and said: "You're a good kid, Cody. I really appreciate you taking care of her. I'll give you a ride home if you need it."
Cody smiled and shook his hand. "Thanks Mr. Sarnelli. It was no problem. And I asked Shawn to come pick me up, he is on his way. She was easy to take care of, she just slept the whole time!" He laughed.
My dad and I laughed along and small talked until Shawn arrived for Cody at around 10:45.
After Cody left my dad took my temperature one last time before I went to bed. It was back to normal, but by the time I was ready for bed, it was 1:00 A.M. My dad decided to let me stay home from school the next day since I would be exhausted. He tucked me in and turned off the light, just like he did when I was a little girl. I fell asleep and had a dream about the Cookie Monster....weird.
The next day I got up at 12:00. Wow, I really slept in. I ventured downstairs and saw that my dad left me a note saying that he was at work, and would be back at 7:00. I ate a plain bagel with peanut butter and text Cody.
*PHONE CONVERSATION*
Me; my dad let me stay home today :D
Cody; lucky! to the pier?
Me; See you there. (:
I made my way to pier and I saw that Cody got there before me. He brought his guitar....Oh God.
I looked at him with a confused look and slowed my pace. He started to strum the beginning chords of his song "Perfect". It was one of my favorite songs by him. I knew every word. The first time I heard it I cried.
He came closer to me and started singing the first words. By the second line a HUGE crowd was gathered. Cody led me over to a bench. He motioned for me to join in singing at the chorus. I did and after we finished we got a big round of applause.
Oddly enough, there wasn't one single papparazi in sight. Not one single camera in hand taking pictures. It was just an amazing moment.
"What was all this for?" I ask with a slight smile.
"For being perfect." He says and pulls me into a hug.
All I can do is blush and take his hand. We rode some rides that were there and by around 7 we went back to my house for dinner.
"Your dad is pretty cool." Cody says.
"Yeah!" I laugh.
We got home and all 3 of us made dinner together. Tacos. Yum.
We dad finished cooking while Cody and I set the table. We all sat down by 8:00.
"Sorry we have such late dinners." My dad says to Cody.
"No, no, it's fine. I have late dinners too." He replies.
"So I decided to listen to a few of your songs the other day! You have a lot of talent kid!" My dad says.
"Oh well thank you so much!" Cody says, flattered.
"Ryan, maybe you could let Cody listen to a few of your songs." My dad suggests with a wink.
"Uh, no. That isn't such a good idea." I say nervously. Cody heard me singing one of my songs before and I was completely mortified. I can't sing in front of people, I just can't!
The rest of the time we just small talked and got to know each other better. We finished dinner by 8:30 and we had another hour before Cody had to go. We decided to hang out in the computer room upstairs.
"You have more songs than the one I heard?" Cody asked curiously.
"Yeah." I say with hesitation.
"I WANT TO HEAR THEM!" He says excitedly.
"Not going to happen darling. I can't sing in front of people. Remember?"
"Why not? You're amazing!"
"Thank you, but, I just get too nervous." I explain.
So we decided to just play my guitar for a while and at 9:40 Cody's mom came for him. He kissed me goodnight and I was off to bed.
