CHAPTER FOURTEEN
❛ FIGHT OR DIE ❜
╸this is going to kill me.
SHE WOKE UP. SHE COUGHED UNCONTROLLABLY, gasping for air. Her chest was moving up and down quickly. Her eyes were open, but it seemed like they were still closed. She looked around. It was dark, and there didn't seem to be any light nearby.
Rory tried to get up, but her whole body was aching. It was as if she'd been thrown to the ground. And that's exactly what happened.
Gradually, the memory came back to mind. The disgusting vines grabbing her and climbing over her, pulling her to the bottom of the freezing lake, causing her to drown in the water. Also, the pulsing red light almost blinding her.
She looked back, resting her trembling, dirty arms on the ground. There was that tear in the ground, filled with strong, huge vines that looked like tree roots.
Despair and disbelief take hold of her. She had no idea where she was.
She stood up and looked at the sky, her blue eyes shining in the dull light. In front of her, there were floating particles of ash, creating an atmosphere of false peace. In the sky, which was completely dark, thunder roared and red lightning flashed through the clouds. It was stuffy and smelled like rotting flesh, like garbage in the hot sun in California. There was no wind, just a cool breeze that filled the stinky atmosphere.
A clap of thunder made her jump. And, to be honest, it was pretty cold there.
Her cold skin was covered in a dirty, mucus-like substance. She tried to wipe it off with her fingers, but it just kept coming back. She wrapped her arms around her trembling body. Her clothes were much ruined by a series of unfortunate events. Her dress was torn, probably because of the aggressive vines.
Everything was so confusing. The place seemed strangely familiar. Was this another world or just a hallucination in her head? Was it even safe to breathe in that stuffy air?
She was on the other slide, breathing heavily. It seemed like she was alone.
It felt like she was in that lake, but with no water. It was as if she were in a swimming pool with no water. It was a strange sensation.
And that's when she realized, completely shocked. She was in Lover's Lake, but there was no water. And it was the same forest. The exact same place. She let out a sigh of relief, that came shaky due to cold and fear.
Was she in an alternative reality from our world, but a very unpleasant place one?
She kept walking barefoot. Her swollen and purple ankle made the process difficult, causing her to limp. She walked around and managed to get out of the dry lake.
