AFTER THE INSANE ADVENTURE in the tunnels came to an end, they got into the blue Camaro. Once they arrived at the Byers' house, this time with Steve driving, they didn't have to wait long for news. The Byers soon arrived, with Will safe and sound, completely free of the virus that had taken over him.

With their hearts now relieved, Steve took charge of getting the children back to their house so they could finally rest and calm the minds of their worried parents.

At that moment, Harrington was driving through the deserted, dark streets toward the Hargrove-Mayfield residence, dropping off Rory, who was beside him, fighting the sleep that weighed down her eyelids, and Max, who was behind him, her head resting on the window with her eyes closed.

Steve looked at the girl next to him, her arms crossed over her chest.

"Are you still mad at me?" Steve's velvety voice made Rory's almost asleep limbs vibrate.

"I could ask you the same." She answered in a low tone, looking straight ahead.

"Look, I'm sorry for yelling at you. I know you were just trying to help, and that you can't say no to an adventure, but this could have gone wrong, and as you said this afternoon, it's our responsibility."

"And you got into a fight with my brother even after I specifically warned you, in fact, I begged you not to. That could have gone very wrong too." Rory said firmly and looked at Steve. It had been stuck in her throat until that moment.

"I know, but that's a promise I can't keep. He's not an easy person-"

"You know what else isn't easy? The life of the boy Billy put in the hospital. Would you rather risk dying at his hands? He is dangerous." There was not an echo of peace on the girl's tense face.

"Yeah." He tilted his head, repeating that she was right. "I can tell he's dangerous after seeing him squeeze your neck and push you against a piece of furniture. He did that to you, someone he claims to protect."

Rory opened her mouth to speak, but the words came out slowly."He... he's never done this before. He's never hurt me like that, although it has nothing to do with the beating he gave you."

"I'm not shocked by what he did to me, he hates me, but he supposedly loves you and he still did this. That just proves he's sick."

"He was upset-"

"Don't defend him, Rory!" He raised his voice a little, causing the sleeping Max to move a little. "You're always trying to find excuses for the shit he does. I know you both had a rough childhood, but that doesn't give him the right to act like that, specially towards someone who does everything for him. He doesn't deserve your love, and you don't deserve him to treat you like this."
