         "OH YEAH, THIS WILL DO."

Steve Harrington said, taking off his dark sunglasses to get a better look at the place, which was some kind of open-air metal dump.

The sun was shining in a blue sky dotted with clouds. The old junkyard they were heading to was located in the middle of the forest, far from civilization. It was littered with abandoned cars, ladders, and barrels, and bushes grew between the unused metal objects.

It was the ideal setting for a massacre. So the three of them dumped the rest of the food on the ground.

Rory's legs hurt from walking, which was strange since her physical condition was great — until Halloween night, of course. She tilted her head to look at the sky and let out a long sigh.

She put the gasoline can down. She really didn't want to have to repeat the same episode in the other dimension. She remembered how the fire had spread and burned the creatures, who had uttered horrible, gurgling grunts. She still didn't really understand what had happened to her, why the explosion had affected her so much — it was still a mystery to her.

One of the many secrets she shared with Steve, and he had kept it faithfully until now, much to her relief.

She would kill him if he turned to Dustin out of the blue and said, oh, did you know that we've discovered that Rory has superpowers? The kid would become obsessed with her and within seconds half of Hawkins would know.

As soon as Dustin, Rory and Steve arrived at the junkyard, they found Lucas on his bike, accompanied by Max. She really shouldn't be there — about to get involved with something dangerous. But at least there will be an extra pair of hands to build a fort to keep them safe.

Rory snorted when he saw the look on Dustin's face as he admired her step-sister walking towards them alongside Lucas, who looked excited. Henderson seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. A pang of sadness attacked her heart. Dustin seemed to be a sweet and funny pre-teen, despite his bossy nature — something he had in common with Max, afterall.

But she knew that Mayfield could sometimes be a bit insensitive, again, just to protect her heart. It was her defensive mechanism. Dustin didn't deserve to be let down like that. But that's just how life goes sometimes.

Yet Steve didn't seem pleased to witness such a thing. He was determined to protect that kid at all costs.

Dustin turned back to face Rory and extended his index finger in front of her face and whispered harshly, catching her off guard. "You're forbidden to say anything to Max about our conversation."
