We continue on with our journey as I think of all the other stories I have heard about fairies, do they really steal babies? "Yes, although it is rare" Asmodeus speaks "stay out of my head" I shoot him another dirty look "make me" he smirks and I role my eyes as we continue walking "the older fairies tend to steal babies so they can regain their youth, something to do with the newness of the blood and healthiness of the..." Daeva cuts him off "I'm gonna be sick" he laughs at her response "you drink blood to survive"he points out, "but not real blood" he pauses "what?" his face grows confused "it's synthetic, made in a lab" she looks at him as if he were stupid as he places his hands on his hips "so your telling me, we are going into the real world with a vampire who has never tried human blood" with his hands still on his hips he turns and looks at me, I hadn't thought that far ahead. "I came fully stocked" she says as she shakes her backpack, he sighs "and what about the temptation, that burning feeling in your throat that won't go away, hearing the blood pulsate through the body as you pass every single person on the street, what about the anger?" he sheds light on what's to come and my concerns grow, maybe this isn't such a good idea" you don't have to worry about me, besides if I get angry I could always punch you in the face" she smiles matching his earlier sarcasm.
"Look" I point to the falling down hut in the distance and we rush towards it "now what?" I ask looking at Daeva who pulls the piece of paper from her back pocket "it says right" she points in the direction we should be walking "we should get inside, take five and avoid the rain" Asmodeus speaks "What rain..." just as I was about to finish my question the sky opens up. Daeva forces the old wooden door open and we step inside the fraile hut that may fall down if the wind picks up. I don't understand why we called it a hut when it's so small it looks like nothing more than tool storage, it sat empty with only a small rocking chair in the corner next to a bare broken window where Asmodeus now sits. "Okay, well, we will have a quick hydration break, the rain should pass soon as the sky looks clear" I pull a bottle of water from my bag offering it to Asmodeus as Daeva drinks her... yeah. "Oh my dear, don't pretend you care about me, I might like it" he smiles refusing the drink as I role my eyes. His presence irritates me. "I heard that" he teases and I throw my bottle at him. How many times do I have to tell this man to stay out of my head? Asmodeus if you can hear this GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HEAD! I watch him as he smiles, he definitely heard it.
"Okay, I will be the first to admit this is weird" Daeva points at me and Asmodeus as he watches me for a reaction. "Can you hear everything she thinks?" she asks him as he nods "what about me?" she asks "no, you didn't summon me, she did" he shakes his head as he speaks pointing at me. "I didn't summon you!" I protest "whatever you say dear" he mocks as a group of thunder rattles the hut causing me to jump from my skin.
"You know the rain isn't going anywhere right?" Asmodeus says as he points out of the window and up at the sky as lightning begins to flash. "It will pass" I respond, "how soon? I want out of here before it gets dark" Daeva responds and I nod in agreement "if it doesn't stop soon, we will continue on, we only have to get to the tree right?" she nods. "Lets play a game" Asmodeus puts his hands together like a villain from a movie "let's not" I snap "oh I know, how about never have I ever" his eyes wide with excitement, "how about no" I say as I look at Daeva who also seems to hate the idea. "Never have I ever... Kissed someone" he looks directly at me "your supposed to drink" he says "no" I respond "fine, never have I ever... Had a crush on a demon" his eyes still watching me "drink" he speaks "in your dreams" I say rolling my eyes at his arrogance "never have I ever... Killed somebody" he pauses "oops, that's me" he smiles taking the water from my hand and sipping it. I look at Daeva who looks back at me in shock. "Oh don't be so dramatic" he smirks "he deserved it" he shrugs, "What did he do?" Daeva asks still in shock "he broke my heart" he pouts sticking out his bottom lip and pretending to cry. "If you like men then why are you here, torturing me?" I question "I like anyone I can't have, until I have them"he tilts his head and smiles in an almost sinister way.
" Can we go now? "Daeva begins collecting her belongings as I do the same, the rain has calmed but has not completely stopped I just don't want to be stuck in this hut with him any longer and yes, Asmodeus I can feel your eyes burning into me so I know your listening. We exit the hut as the rain continues and the clouds in the sky darken causing an uneasiness, I pick up my pace wanting to get out of here as soon as possible, Daeva matches my energy and also picks up her pace while Asmodeus, well you probably guessed it, he seems to be enjoying a nice slow stroll, looking up at the trees humming away, in a world of his own. I want to kill him. "You can't kill me and you know it" he smiles as he starts to skip, skipping past me and Daeva, leading the way while still humming that stupid happy tune.
"What is this vampire supposed to do?" I look at her hoping she knows something, anything just to ease my anxiety. "Silas is like the oldest vampire, his symbol wouldn't be in the book for no reason, either he can help us or he knows who can" she trys to reassure me with a smile but it doesn't work. The unknown terrifies me, maybe that's why I live such a sheltered life, maybe that's why I haven't been ki... Asmodeus is probably in my head right now, wherever he has skipped off to it definitely isn't far enough.
"Urm guys" he shouts through the dense bushes "through here!" he shouts again and we follow his voice quickly, pushing the branches out of our way and squeezing through some trees. As we made our way through it was like stepping into darkness and my eyes struggle to adjust, the rain has stopped but the sound of crows screeching filled the night sky, only I couldn't see them, I just knew they were watching.
