The fire flickers bright orange flames, causing the whole cave to glow. The hail still crashes down and the sun has completely disappeared, meaning we are stuck here for the night. Even sat next to the fire my body shivers "eat" Silas says as he sits next to me, I look at the protein bar in his hand and shake my head "I'm not hungry" I reply as I continue shivering. "You need to eat," he says, removing his jacket and placing it over my shoulders, I take the bar from him, but I do not eat it. I'm not hungry. The thought of eating is making me feel sick. "What's on your mind?" he asks as I feel his eyes on me, I look over to Daeva and Jasper as they lean up against each other fast asleep, I am jealous that they can sleep so much. "What's it like?" I ask as my eyes return to the fire."What do you mean?" he questions his eyes still on me."Being a vampire, " I reply. He pauses for a moment and I look to him. His face appears unsure and lost. He doesn't know how to respond. "Is it hard?" I continue and he nods."Every second of every day, all I crave is blood. The thirst is unbelievable, even after all this time, " he speaks, brushing his hair back away from his face. "How do you control it?" I enquire and he responds quickly "I don't, always" he sighs "I'm not proud of it, I always try to fight it but sometimes the urge for blood is to strong" silence grows loudly between us for a moment "how have you stayed in control around me?" I feel like I am asking too many questions, but I need to know what my future might be like. "The smell of you is so intoxicating, almost giving me a high immediately and I have thought about how good you would taste, but I urm... I care about you to much to hurt you, that's where the control comes from" he rubs his temples uncomfortable at my question "promise me one thing" I say looking into his eyes "if I die and Asmodeus gets me, let me go, you deserve to find happiness, promise my you will let me go, you cannot hold on to things you cannot change" our eyes are still locked into each other's but I can see he grows hurt, it's in his eyes. "I can not make you that promise, I'm sorry. If he takes you away from me I will find a way to get you back, I will not rest until you are mine" he reaches for my hand and I place it in his interlocking our fingers as I rest my head on his shoulder. "Take care of them for me," I say, looking back over to Jasper and Daeva. "We can do it together," he whispers as he kisses my head.
I spent the whole night Asmodeus free, no dreams, no voices, maybe he finally got the hint when I told him to go away but he will be back, it's only a matter of time. I stand up, looking around as the sunlight fills the cave, everybody is gone. No Daeva, no Silas, no Jasper. I quickly gather my belongings and step out of the cave into the crisp morning air. "Daeva, Silas, Jasper," I say loudly, hoping that they are nearby. Where are they? They wouldn't just leave me, would they? I call out again, nothing. A lump forms in my throat as I begin to panic and I call out again. "They are fine, child." Mom emerges from behind a tree, she found us, I don't know what to say, I don't know how to react.
"I always knew," she smiles. "I always knew you were special, but my daughter a Cinnstuar witch. The Cinnstuar witch, " she smiles proudly."What do you want?" I ask, trying not to give away the panic I feel. "Let's not play silly games now, my child. You know I want the stone and I want you to help me," she steps closer. "Why would I help you?" I question in disbelief "let's call it a bonding experience" she mocks "but if you don't help me, Silas and Jasper might just fall into that beautiful volcano" she presses her hands together with excitement and I no longer recognise her, she is not my mother, she is a stranger. "And Daeva?" I ask, noticing that she has not mentioned her, she laughs, an evil sinister cackle. Daeva appears from behind a tree sheepishly "I can explain" she begins "shush child" my mother hushes her and I do not know what is happening, I do not know how to feel, why is mom with Daeva? Why is Daeva with my mom? "She might love you now, but she was my little helper, insistent on finding your powers. Who was it that wouldn't let you give up when you wanted to remain powerless? Who was it that did all the important research and had all these ideas? Who's idea was it to find the stone?" her words wound me, Daeva wouldn't do that, would she? I look to her once again. "Let me explain, please, I love you," she sobs and only then do I realise it's true. All this time. How can she love me but do this? How did I not see it in her mind? Why?
I can not stop the tears escaping me as my emotions rise and the weather turns. The wind picks up, causing the trees to frantically bounce from side to side. The rain comes pouring down and I can hear the waves crashing against the rocks as the ground begins to shake. The sky growls with anger and the shooting pains in my head grow stronger and stronger until everything around me becomes a blur, I scream out with mixed emotions, anger, and pain. I fall to the floor, clutching my head as I try to breathe. "Stop her!"These are the last words I heard from my mother before a sharp pinch pricks the back of my arm and everything goes dark. Asmodeus, where are you?
Darkness. Emptiness. Nothingness.
"Asmodeus," I call out into the darkness. "You only want me when you need me." I hear him, but I do not see him, I do not see anything. "You have to help me," I say he laughs. "I do not have to do anything!" he bellows angrily "please" I beg.
