"I don't want to be your friend!" Those were the words I heard before I left the place.
"The world really is unfair. Those with the purest hearts are the ones who always get betrayed," I mumbled as I walked away from the person I thought was my close friend, tears slowly falling down my cheeks.
"Hey, Dohoon!"
"Wait for me!"
I heard him call my name, but I had no interest in looking back or giving him my tiniest attention again. Then, he held my hand to stop me.
"Let me go!"
"No! Let me explain."
"Explain what, Shinyu?" I finally confronted him. I saw his surprised face, mixed with fear.
"I've heard enough. You don't have to explain anything to me. I'm not forcing you either." I tried my best; all I wanted was to vanish from his sight.
"You don't understand, Dohoon..."
"Shinyu, what's so hard about comprehending the words you said? It was clear! You never saw me as your friend, and you never wanted to at first!"
I clenched my fist as I threw those words at him. It felt painful, but it was all my fault. I never learned.
He hugged me suddenly, and I felt my body weaken from his actions. I felt his warmth, similar to when I hugged my pet, Sundae.
I tried to push him away, but he wouldn't let go. I lost my strength and cried badly on his chest, burying my face.
"You're an asshole!" I cursed while weeping, but he let me say those words, embracing me tightly and caressing my back.
"All I wanted was someone I could trust, share good memories with, someone to accompany me and enjoy things together," I uttered.
"Tell me, Shinyu, what's the problem with me?"
I tried to deliver my words audibly, unable to express myself fully due to the extreme pain I felt, losing my breath.
"There's nothing wrong with you, Dohoon," he retorted.
I faced him, he wiped the tears from my eyes, but I looked away to stop him.
"There's nothing wrong? Then why did you say that earlier? You're acting like you never approached me first, gained my trust. Now that I've given in, you suddenly don't want to be friends with me?"
I paused for a second and a person came into my mind.
"Is it because of Hannah?"
"Why are you bringing her up? That's not true!" He defended.
"Look at me, Dohoon," he said. I disobeyed, but he held my face, forcing me to look directly at him.
"Of course, I'm your friend-"
I cut him off mid-sentence.
"Then why did you say-"
I couldn't finish my sentence as he shut my lips with his index finger.
"Shh, just listen to me first."
"Look at me, look into my eyes," he told me. I hesitated but then gave in.
"I don't want to be just your friend. I want more than that."
I was shocked, my lips parting in awe, trying to digest what he had just told me.
What the hell is happening? Am I hearing it right?
