Uma had heard of her, the mermaid from the pacific ocean, the only mermaid that went to the Auradon Royal Academy, mainly because Ariel was settled a bit too far away to send her own daughter here.

She hadn't encountered her yet, but she was sure she couldn't miss the deep-sea fish, because she had a feeling she would stand out, being from a different school than the one Ariel came from came with a certain curiosity from others.

Her hair is said to be dark, with patches of lighter strands here and there, and these void-ish black eyes.

She found out herself a few weeks later how she was, when she bumped into her and was about to try and tear her apart, when she looked her right in the eyes and frowned.

"Yes?" Uma stepped closer, leaning down go get a better look at her.

"You're the mermaid."

"You're the octopus." She retorted, raising an eyebrow at the sea witch.

"You're not a cousin of mine... are you?" The mermaid looked horrified.

"Hell no, i'd be long dead if I was that brightly coloured, I'm a deep sea mermaid, being fluorescent doesn't help with hunting." Uma chuckled, "that includes you, you literally glow in the dark, that is not good, how do you even get food when you're underwater? Can you withstand the pressure of the deeper areas? How deep can you go? Can you go past the 10 kilometer mark?" Now it was Uma's turn to raise an eyebrow.

"What brings the sudden trivia?"

"Mh? I live in the Mariana Trench, if you have to meet my parents you'll have to be able to go that deep at least." Uma took a step back, what the fuck was up with this fish, did she stay out of the ocean for too long?

"Hey, I think the pressure has gotten to your brain, it's physically impossible for you to be here when you come up from such a depth."

"Mermaids are mystical creatures, now answer me." Uma stepped back a bit, the girl following her.

"Don't tell me you don't know about the mermaid cultures? Really, for you to interact with a different school of mermaids without knowing really is weird, let me guess, Triton didn't tell you that the Mariana school has different rules? Every school has different rules, I can tutor you on them? Don't let anyone from the South Korean coast tutor you though, you'll have to marry them in exchange for the knowledge." She seemed to deflate as she noticed Uma's confused face.

"Wait so you're from the Philippines?"

"I'm from the Mariana Trench, but yeah, if you want to specify it like that, now let's go sea witch."

-

Uma would have never thought that when she would meet the mermaid, she'd be forced to learn about other mermaids.

But she also never thought that mermaids were so fucking complicated.

"So... Triton's school judges suitors by music capability, the northern seas and specifically the Arctic ocean, judge by mainly hunting capabilities, but also how fast you can go. The Atlantic ocean is the same with that, but more with the speed attribute than the hunting bit. Southern ocean doesn't have a lot of mermaids, but they priorities hunting abilities above all else. Indian ocean mermaids love colour and the meaning of stuff, so if you wear a specific colour around them, or give them a specific seashell or flower, make sure it doesn't have a hidden meaning. Pacific ocean is mostly speed over anything else, because we're the best and our ocean is the biggest. Trench mermaids value how far underwater you can go and how much pressure you can handle, plus whatever's going on for the rest of their ocean. And volcanic mermaids value heat resistance." The girl had whipped out a chalkboard, Uma being forced to sit down in front of her.

"And I need to know why??"

"Because you just proposed to me. Our rules include that if another mermaid bumps into us on purpose, they're proposing." Uma groaned, she really should stop pickpocketing the Auradon kids.

"Well it wasn't on purpose, you could've just dodged."

"You were looking straight ahead and saw me, I was on my phone."

"Well I didn't propose!"

-

"Hey mergirl! Look at this!" Uma grinned at the mermaid she had gotten quite close to, running after Harry and Gil and tackling them to the ground after a few minutes of running in pointless circles to try shake her off.

"You just proposed." The girl deadpanned once Uma was standing under the elevated part of the garden where the mermaid was standing.

"Really? Again? What the fuck is wrong with your rules man, I can't show off anymore?"

"You can't show off how fast you can run or swim."

-

"Mh? Hello Tala." The girl smiled at the daughter of Moana, who grinned back.

"Hey! Have you seen how the ocean looks today? We should go for a swim! Please go for a swim with me because I heard from Anna that it's the perfect temperature!"

"You said the same thing when it was freezing cold and I had to save you from freezing up and drowning." Tala sheepishly smiled, but nonetheless grinned when the girl nodded.

"Right! See you later Amphi! Please don't be late!" The girl ran off, Amphi smiling as she left.

"Oh so she's not proposing? Also, your name's Amphi? Like the goddess?" Uma appeared next to her, swinging an arm around her shoulders.

"She's not a mermaid. Also, my name's Amphire, and the goddess you're referring to is Amphirite." Uma rolled her eyes, but walked alongside Amphire regardless.

"Hey, why don't you join track? Isn't that like your school's whole thing, being fast?"

"In water."

-

"Why did I have to come with? This is ridiculous!" Uma groaned, her boys running through the warm sand.

"Because you're helping me and Tala get something from the bottom of the sea."

"You're helping Amphi, I can't go that deep." Amphire nodded, then pulled off her skirt and top, placing them on the rocks.

Her legs had scales here and there, which Uma hadn't noticed before.

"Hey! What're you doing! We're in public you dumbass!" Uma yelled over at her, the girl already going to the water.

"What? Nobody's around, they won't see my nipples or anything." She gestured at the two boys who were running around further away, she stood with her back to them so she was right.

"Still-."

"Don't be such a wussy! Please help her find my shell! I got it from mom and if she finds out I lost it she'll drown me or something similar!" Uma groaned, rolling her eyes and joining Amphire near the water.

"It's a white horn shell, you know what it looks like Amphi, please find it or i'm dead!!" She cried out, Amphire was already walking into the water when Uma turned back to her.

-

"Honestly what fish is that?" Uma poked at Amphire's tail with one of her tentacles.

"What is wrong with you." Apmhire rolled her eyes, her black tail making strong currents of water whenever she moved it.

"I'm an octopus, point. And you're a... seal? Orca? Black fish thing?" The girl groaned, going deeper.

"Also! Why don't you have the shell things that Ariel had? Doesn't every mermaid?"

"You mean the shells they put on themselves? I mean do you genuinely think-?"

"Yeah! They let their tits out when they transform too???" Amphire went even faster, too fast for Uma to keep up so she just wandered off.

"Hey! Look at this fish!" She held up a dull brown fish the same size as her, and Amphire looked down at her.

"Stop proposing to me!"

"What?! I'm not!"
