Chapter 6

"Hey." My brother said, then my sister slapped him across the face very hard. "We can discuss later, but right now you are going to dress up and come to your sisters mentoring ball. And if you don't, I have plenty more where that slap came from." I snickered but had to immediately straighten my face so that my sister wouldn't murder me. "I plead not guilty and um I will excuse myself" I say as I try to slide out of the room but Ivee grabs my arm and holds me back. I don't even try because I know that would be nearly impossible to do unless I was a super bodybuilder. Ivee may not look like it but she's freakishly strong. "I absolutely cannot believe you! You literally asked if he was here when you got here!" She screetched "Well yeah, but he wasn't like most my life and that's the end of that story." I say cooly " For now." She says. I cock and eyebrow but don't object. "Can I be free now to go see who my mentor is?" Her face does a weird thing. It looks like a shadow passed across her face. I shake it off maybe it's just my imagination. " Yes you can now, I'll be down in a minute." She sighs and waves me off down to the ball. I turn and walk down to the ball starting to wobble a bit in my platforms. My brother, Ace Cornwall has finally shows up when I'm around since he left to go work for Space Chickens. This has to be a trick, a mistake, a dream! Yes a dream I pinch myself, but nothing happens. So this is real huh? Nope. Nopenopenopenope. It CAN'T. But I had already reached the entrance so I had to stuff that into a mental box of stuff to figure out later. Because now was the biggest night of my life. "Are you Nightingale Cornwall?" I turn around to the voice to find a older guy "Yes, but please, call me Aspen." The guys face looks surprised like he didn't believe he had found the right person. "Well, that was fast for once." We both laughed. "Um you will be heading to the stage right now for the announcement about who your mentor is and prepare for the dance." Oh. The dance. Shit. The most important part of the whole event. Once everyone learns who their mentor is the star student has to duel their mentor to demonstrate why their the star. No powers. Inherent human form. Possibly one of the most challenging things in the entire training regimen. I started shaking once I got behind the stage from nerves. Im normally a very calm person especially about fights, but I also rely on powers because they are very strong even for a fully trained adult. Suddenly the lights outside dimmend and I became even more nervous. Soon after a song starts playing Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. Another tradition your mentor picks a song they thinks represents how you react in fights. Caitlyn was the one subject to the song. Ew. Her mentor was Cherry Knight as equipper. They make sure you look appropriate for your missions. After they walked off the stage, the next person was Gale from the ship her song was Bury a Friend by Billie Eilish. Her mentor was Dawn Slimes as a warrior. Waves song was DEAD RIGHT NOW by Lil Nas X. OOP- hehe I think that's an insult. His mentor was  Luna Blue as a spy too. Interesting. Greens song was get him back! By Olivia Rodrigo and his mentor was Eel Hendrix as a warrior. I was next. My song was vicious by Tate McRae. I walked what I thought was a reasonable pace to see who my mentor was. I got to the podium and started to open the envelope "I, Nightingale Aspen Cornwall's mentor will be... Ace Cornwall." Oh dear. That will be fun. I walked off the stage.

Welp. How did ya like it? I made so many references it makes me so happy!😂  Anyways I'm not gonna write anymore today. Probably. Idk. Anyways another thing. I need help with names. Feel free to comment for any ideas ( first and last plz) anyways have a shrekcellent day!
