prologue

forty three women around the world gave birth on october first, nineteen-eighty nine. this was unusual only in the fact was that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began.

sir reginald hargreeves, an eccentric billionaire olympic gold medalist, got seven of them.

__

whilst reginald pranced around the world, collecting his seven new children, and raised them. one beautiful babygirl was born and brought home from the hospital years later. an entirely expected pregnancy of a long lineage-family in japan. with full knowledge of the abilities that was about to become the girls life, her mother and father moved themselves to the same city that reginald hargreeves had lived with his seven very special children.

mei nakamura was a fully capable young woman with her book by her side. who needed a specific birth date? all you need is a long family history of power and special abilities. known to the entire saito clan, the first born girl of each family gifted with abilities to remain hushed. it is why each woman married, each daughter with a new last name. these wizards were traced, but lost in other family trees. each girl to be blessed or cursed with her magical prowess each had different qualities in their magic. it typically followed the eldest daughter's family for magic. eldest daughter, a wizard, who then had her own eldest daughter became a wizard as well.

in some cases where the magical mother did not have a daughter, it was then moved to the next daughter in maternal tree.

mei's mother had been gifted with some of the most powerful divination in their family. mei's great aunts received very futile necromancy magic. whilst mei sat with every possible book her family had recorded and used it all to her ability.

she had found she had evocation magic young. she had held her hand over her dad's finger after slicing his thumb while cooking dinner one night. a light hovered over his hand and the cut was gone, with not even a trace of blood left.

another year, when she was at a playground she found she had abjuration magic. she nearly got hit by a random baseball bat flying from some random direction when she threw her hand up last second and a purple shield came up in front of her.

some years following she had received a test score that was not agreeable to her parents standards. when her mother asked for the test, whilst being handed the test page the paper suddenly burst into flame and went out. conjuration magic.

each year it was like she needed a new book to be shipped from her grandparents when a new magic school was found.

with each book, she got tired and eventually made her own, it was four pocketbooks that were leather bound and beaten up. one full of magic for defensive magic, one larger book full of offensive magic, and lastly, magic she could use in daily life, and a book of things she was poor at, like divination and necromancy. all which fit into her coats inside pockets, and soon a small canvas cross body bag.
