present for the future

It was November Twelfth now, Mei decided visiting Diego spent enough time locked away. The idea of saving Kennedy was fine, sure. But don't fuck with the timeline goddamnit. Mei wasn't too bothered about it, they are already here, probably messing it all up to begin with. Mei was, for the first time, praying to god the commission doesn't come after the Hargreeves family.

Mei truly didn't know how long Diego has been in there until
Elliott told her last night. sometimes they're arrested and thrown in immediately, sometimes they are actually held in county jail and given a fair trial, but since when was Dallas fair?

Mei was at the desk of Diego's mental asylum. She'd chosen a random yellow knee length sun dress, and always with her black mary janes.

"Hi, I'm here to visit my adoptive brother-in-law."

"Name?"

"Mei Y. for Diego Hargreeves."

She decided best to not give her technical last name. The clerk looked at her, and set down a gray bin. "Jewelry off. Bag too."

"This is my wedding band and engagement ring."

"Jewelry off." Mei rolled her eyes before dropping her jewelry into the depths of her bag. Pulling one of her books out to shove into the space between her dress and arm. She smiled before setting it into the gray bin. "Done."

"Nurse Hyde, bring her to the visitors room." A tall white man smiled at Mei and lead her down the hallway.

"Wait here." Mei just nodded and fiddled with her emptied finger. Her eyes trained on the empty spot. She'd never taken it off, it was strange.

Footsteps shuffled on the linoleum tiles as Diego appeared. "Holy shit. Mei?"

"Hey, stranger."

The nurse who brought remained in the corner, his arms crossed. While Diego took his seat Mei messaged him quickly.

Don't talk about magic. I know you have questions. I don't need them throwing me in with you.

Diego just nodded. "How'd you find me, why'd it take so long?" Diego cut to question her.

"If you must know, dear Diego. The newspaper articles just came out. My contact let me know last week after my dinner with Allison. How long have you been here?"
