never touch my wife

when mei returned to diego's place, luther was sitting there just watching five. five was still asleep. mei walked quietly, this was five's first great sleep in ages.

"are you gonna answer the questions now?" luther said as she came down the stairs.

"maybe when i wake up." mei exhaled softly as she steadied herself, between healing and flying with no time between, she was getting a headache.

"give me four hours," mei fell onto the bed behind five.

mei only slept so much at the library, and only recovered some of her spellcasting, but not enough of it. she didn't even sleep well the night five abandoned her, most of it spent sitting there plotting how to kill five then revive him to kill him one more time, obviously with another revive after it.

a few hours later, five was now waking up and sitting at the edge of the bed. he talked to luther, and tapped mei's leg to wake her up, doing so begrudgingly she sat up and leaned against the wall.

"when's it supposed to happen? the... apocalypse."

"mei said some time at night, four days from now. she was around for it."

"so why didn't she stop the world from ending."

"she didn't know. she wasn't skilled in her divination at the time. she came outside of her home and saw the world being destroyed. she could only save herself." mei sat there, her head in her palm. the scene of a moon rock played in her mind, in black and white like it was an old movie she lived in.

"so why didn't you say something sooner?" five stared at his hands, "it wouldn't have mattered."

"of course it would. we could have banded together and helped you to stop this thing." luther declared.

"you guys already tried." luther's demeanor and body shifted at five's answer. he looked back at his brother to ask, "what do you mean?"

"i found you all. your bodies, together."

"we die?" luther's voice hushed for once.

"horribly. you were all together. trying to stop whoever ends the world." luther seemed like he tried to picture it, all of it.

"how do you know that?" five reached to mei's bag, he put it in there while at the library.

he pulled out the cloth wrapped eyeball. "this was clutched in your dead hand when i found you." five tossed the eyeball to luther for him to catch. "probably ripped out of their head before going down."
