when five and mei heard the handlers voice, their heads peering over luther's back to see her. their shoes hit the pavement skeptically towards her, canvassing the frozen world around them. she was dressed similarly to the day she met them those one or two years ago. she lifted her veil and smiled.

"hello five. hello mei, you two look great!" she almost cheered, her astute enthusiasm made mei's back chill. her voice dropped as she followed her statement, "all things considered."

"good to see you again." five spoke, his hand slid into his pocket and his other holding mei's elbow lightly.

"feels like we met just yesterday. of course, you two were a little bit older then! amazing change with the age regression. very clever which one of you did it? didn't know mei-zy had such a neat spell."

"it was all five. much to his dismay, nor intentional," mei involved herself in the conversation. the handler smiled as she listened, before she began her tirade.

"it was just merely a miscalculation in the time dilation projection," five covered his hind.

"you do realize your efforts are all futile. so! why don't you tell me what you really want?"

"you already know what we want. end it," mei bit at the handler.

"you realized what you're asking for is next to impossible, even for me. you guys know this. what's meant to be is meant to be. that is our raison d'être," five had enough of this shit, and pulled out a handgun he had. mei wasn't even aware of this, but wasn't surprised by five's secondary action. "yeah? well how about survival for a raison."

the handler didn't waver at the sight of the pistol. she just waved it off with her hand and spoke. "i would just be replaced, number five. i am a small cog in a machine," handler began stepped closer as five weighed his options, he lowered his gun ever so slightly as she continued. "this fantasy you have about summoning your family together to stop the apocalypse... is just that: a fantasy."

"we will say, all of us are very impressed with the initiative you two have. the uh... hm, the stick-to-itiveness, is quite... quite something. so we want to offer you two something. a position in management, and mei," she looked to the japanese girl, "we want you back as a field agent to handle all of number five's cases. with your nifty blazing hands, you make a weeks worth a days work. unfortunately there isn't more of you with that spell usage anymore. if it was i'd have the every saito women working for me," mei couldn't believe it, the handler was offering them (new) jobs?

mei knew five would make this decision for them, regardless what she had to say. her glare was fixated on the handler with no words.

"i'm sorry, what's that now?"

"come back to work for us again," she said it like it was just a smile and nod. "you know it's where people like you belong," as the handler spoke she stepped forward to the gun, unafraid.
