~Kirito's P.O.V.~
Pain.
It was a nostalgic, almost haunting feeling that slowly crept into my body, then a blaze of pain, no agony, erupted inside my chest, revealing reality before my eyes.
I wasn't strong, I realized, just skilled. Skilled enough to escape and ignore the pain I felt in that moment. Skilled enough to decide that I wouldn't feel pain, physically, mentally, or emotionally.
But that wasn't my decision to make.
I was too ignorant in those worlds, too blind to understand that I wasn't feeling pain because I wanted to. I didn't feel anything because of the system of ones and zeroes and my lack of caring and loving for others close to me.
like Asuna...
I couldn't help but think to myself this fact about myself.
The chalky colored tiles touching my face made me realize the temperature in the hallways was significantly lesser in number to a classroom. Out of the corner of my eye, a frightened little girl stood before a giant. The storybook of "Jack and The Beanstalk" immediately came into my mind as I scanned the situation a few feet away from me.
Get up, I have to get up and save Silicia...
Words of encouragement bounced around my head while the ample student with bright blonde hair made his slow journey to the fragile beast tamer.
But someone's holding me down, I can't get up!
Another side of my mental coherence countered to the former thought, making my judgement hazy on what to do in this situation.
In a situation like this, reason, logic and mental analysis disappeared in the heat of battle from my mind. Making me feel nothing, making me feel invincible against the odds.
I'm a narcissist, aren't I?
I thought, thinking why I couldn't feel like that right now. But the significant difference between this and that situation would be pain. The amount of pain is important in any situation, even more so in the real world.
Even if I did manage to get free from this grip, I'm already too weak to even make up my mind to get motivated.
I let my gaze fall back to the seemingly shy girl hanging around by the lockers, making herself useful and checking the hallway for any students that happened to pass by.
Crap, why can't I just be Kirito from the world and not the weak, flimsy me I am now?
By this time, Silicia stood speechless before the enormous giant. Her pale face showing her fear while cold sweat slowly made their way down her forehead.
"Silicia...run!" I yelled, trying to snap her out of the trance that was keeping her from saving herself and running away.
"Aww, looks like kirigaya won't be saving you, so you better be running off now then" the bigger man said, a mocking tone lacing my last name, making my jaw subconsciously clench. Anger and annoyance from these two bastards made my muscles flex, preparing to turn myself around and attack the guy holding me down with his foot.
But before I could do anything.
"No..." A small voice a little louder than a whisper called a few feet away from me, Silicia, "leave him..." The meager girl looked down, as her line of vision suddenly spotted me, the giant laughing at the insignificant little girl all the while.
Don't worry
I could feel my eyes widen as I realized what she had 'said' to me by looking into her hazel eyes. I nodded, letting her know I caught her drift and was ready when she was.
