We were up bright and early. And by bright and early I mean at the crack of dawn when nobody but Runners had ever gotten up. Good for me then. I was doing fine. Even Newt was the same as always, seeing as he had a good year of experience before something happened.

Fry and Jack and all them, that's debatable.

Now we were just running. We had been going for literal hours. Mister leader kept saying we'll take a break when our legs give out. How smart. Let's all make sure we can't move our legs.

"We've really got thirteen straight days of this klunk?"I sighed, shaking my head as I kept my pace a little near the front just behind Minho and Thomas.

"You seem completely fine,"Fry complained through heavy breaths.

"Yeah, but it's hot. The dry kind of hot too. The worst kind of hot,"I pointed out.

"That's the only thing bothering you?"

"Dude. My legs do hurt a little bit. It's just that dying sounds worse."

"Nu uh. You were all Runners,"Jack argued.

"Only four of us were Runners. Maybe five,"I shrugged, nodding my head to Aris who was beside me.

"Whatever he did, I don't trust him."

"You do know he can hear you, right?"Thomas checked.

"That's why he said it,"Newt explained.

"How sweet of you,"He deadpanned.

"Trust me. I know."

"Minho, why are you like this?"

"Why would I not be?"

"Touche."

"All I know is this still isn't fair,"Harry chipped in.

"At least you guys got to get used to a hot Maze. Mine was freezing."

"How'd you know what temperature the Glade was?"Newt asked quickly, narrowing his eyes at him.

"I told him,"I lied for some reason.

"When'd you have time to tell him that?"Minho asked in a subtle gotcha tone.

"When he was hiding from you shanks, and y'all were wearing me out,"I covered.

"But when-"
"One more interrogation question and I will be throwing myself over a cliff. Now let's keep going,"I instructed. Despite the way I could feel his suspicions about my answer he didn't say anything else about it. While I was sure he hadn't dropped it, that was something.

Now I just have two questions anyway.

How does he know that? Because I didn't say anything, the Gladers didn't say anything while in a group, and as far I know he was never alone with anyone else.

Why did I cover for him? It just came out so naturally, as if I had done it a million times, but I've never met him before. He's never had any significance in my life or even been a glimpse in it so there was no reason for me to lie to him.

He knows something. Something is up with him, and I have to find out what.

It had to be noon now. The sun was just beating down on us as if we had committed crimes worth the most brutal punishment the human mind could come up with. Sweat dripping down my neck, over that tattoo that meant absolutely nothing. It was so bad if my shirt was white it would probably be see through. Carrying that stupid sheet wasn't that useful either, and the scarf protected my skin but not the temperature. At this point, why not just this is into the depths of hell? Probably because it would be too humane. That's why.
