I was feeling the burn now. My legs were basically threatening to give out from under me and send me flying on my face. Every part of me wanted to jump off of a cliff so I could land on the dirt and never have to move again.
But alas, that was an unacceptable thing to do. I was forced to keep moving. Forced by the fact that I will go crazy and die if I don't.
Life is weird. One day, I’m chilling in the Glade. The next, a Greenie who worked for WICKED has gone and jacked everything up, another girl is there, Gally's lost it, and we're all going through the Maze. Then, we got out only for my new friend to go missing, some suspicious shank that almost all the Gladers hate shows up, and we're at risk of losing it. That is a lot of changes in the span of around a month.
Once again, this is crazy. This is all shucking insane.
Holding back a sigh, I just kept on running. Minho was doing the same, not so subtly glancing at Aris every now and then to make sure he hadn't committed any war crimes in five seconds. At this point, I’m surprised he didn't think that about me when I first showed up. He’s been suspicious of literally every other new person and Gally. Not Thomas though. God forbid anyone be suspicious of him.
I love Minho. He’s basically my brother, but his logic makes no sense sometimes.
Understandably, nobody was really talking. Nobody actually has the energy to, but Thomas and Aris were looking at each other like they had fallen in love, which can only mean one thing. They're using their telepathy. I wonder what they're talking about that's such a big secret.
As we were just running this sudden, muffled scream echoed through the air. With everybody stopping in their tracks, we exchanged confused looks, with a few people taking the opportunity to wipe sweat from their faces as well. Not that it did much good.
When it stopped, I went to say we should just get moving again only for that faint scream to turn into a horrific shriek. Covering my ears at the sound, I winced as I swore they were going to bleed. A few people seemed to have the same idea while some just stood there, trying to figure out what that was.
I don't know, and I don't care. This mission may have just gotten a thousand times more unbearable. Running in heat is already pretty sucky, but throwing the risk of going deaf on top of it is uncalled for.
As the noise didn't stop, I knew that I would have to suck it up though. I can't just run with my ears covered forever.
As I removed them I winced again at the sound, my face scrunching up in distaste.
“Who let the banshee out?”I grumbled under my breath.
“Doesn't matter. We just have to keep moving,”Minho said firmly.
Letting out a sigh, I wiped my head with my arm. Nodding my head in agreement, I looked at everybody else. They all have reluctant nods or shrugs as they realized we were just going to have to deal with it.
Yay. How fun.

The screaming didn't stop, even as we got ready to try to sleep. If anything, it got louder.
There was also a new nuisance. Aris wouldn't stop pointing out how annoying it was. While we know that, it was like he’s overcompensating for something.
I don't know. He’s kind of weird so whatever I guess.
Aris’s P.O.V
I feel like an idiot, but I don't have a choice. I have to complain about the screaming every now and then so nobody knows. I have to keep playing dumb. It's the only way.
