I sighed as I sat against the wall playing my harmonica. Because people had a headache I had been kicked out of the room. I couldn't not do something though. There was so much to deal with, and this was a good stress reliever.

"Hey,"Someone quietly greeted. I craned my neck to see Aris awkwardly standing there.

"Sup?"I asked.

"Nothing. I just have a question,"He murmered, shuffling in his spot.

"Which is?"

"So it's weird, but I didn't really pay attention to what Janson was talking about so all I know is something about the Flare,"He said in one breath.

"Why ask me specifically?"

"Your friends don't really seem to like me,"He admitted.

"They don't hate you. They just don't trust you,"I explained.

"Oh. Thanks for that,"He sighed.

"I'm sorry. Next time I'll lie to you,"I deadpanned, rolling my eyes.

"No. I like that you're blunt,"He mumbled. I ignored it as I tossed my harmonica in the air.

"What distracted you from something so important?"I asked.

"Nothing. I just zoned out,"He trailed off, avoiding eye contact. It was obvious that he was lying, but I didn't say anything. What could he possibly be lying about that would change my life?

"Basically, we're all infected. We have to walk to this Safe Haven to get the cure. It's in the mountain and around 2,000 miles. There will be Cranks and deadly weather. We have a time slot to decide if we'll risk it in the Scorch by going through a Flat Trans is stay here,"I recited.

"Great,"He mumbled.

"For sure. It's the dream I had for leaving the boring Maze. Be thrown into more death,"I sighed,

"Yeah. Did you like it in the Maze though?"He asked quickly.

"Meh. It was it was, and right now it is what it is,"I shrugged.

"I mean there had to have been something you enjoyed there."

"What's it to you lo-Aris?"I corrected. I don't know why I almost called him love that one time, but I cannot afford to do it again. Not only is it weird, he also had a reaction that showed clear discomfort. Plus, there was the whole staring into each other's souls thing. I'd rather not do that ever again with anyone.

"I just wanted to know,"He defended.

"Fine. I enjoyed running in the Maze,"I admitted.

"That's it?"

"Yep. Other than that it was just obnoxious. I was the only girl stuck with a bunch of guys, and some of those slintheads had to be put in line. By me,"I clarified.

"What'd you do to them?"

"Murdered them deep in the Deadheads,"I said with dramatic hand gestures. Instead of looking disturbed he let out a soft laugh.

"I missed this,"He whispered.

"Missed what?"

"Having someone to talk to."

"The girls in your Maze tried to kill you,"I reminded him.

"Yeah, but you can miss what you don't remember. Don't you?"He asked, sitting next to me. I just shrugged as I leaned back, but he kept his gaze on me. Now I felt like I should give him some sort of answer.

"I miss someone understanding me. Someone had to have once, right?"

"I'm sure someone at least tried,"He suggested after a moment.
