"Hey Deku, can I talk to you for a minute? There's something I want to ask you," I ask as I walk back to the dorm after class today.
Mr. Aizawa told me it's time for me to earn my hero license. The exam is coming up and since I'm the only one in my class without one, I have been paired up with a boy from another hero class who also does not have his license.
"Do you know someone named Hitoshi Shinso? What can you tell me about him?" I ask as we walk inside.
Deku lights up and starts babbling excitedly about the boy I have yet to meet. He's in Class 2B, his Quirk is Brainwashing, and he's not as scary as he looks. Unfortunately, my friend does not have a page on this kid in his hero notebook, but he has plenty of information in his head to give me as I mentally prepare myself.
Shinso is going to be my training partner/rival for the next month or so as we prepare for the license exam. I'm a little nervous about meeting him, but I'm also very excited. I can't wait to have my hero license so I can start doing work studies like the rest of my classmates.

After class the next day, I wait outside the classroom, hoping to catch a glance at my new training buddy. I want to meet him before we have to fight each other, and I really hope we can get along.
The purple-haired boy I literally ran into on my first day just so happens to be my target. Lucky me. I've seen him a couple of times around campus but I've been a little busy lately and I haven't spoken to him since.
"You're Shinso, right?" I say as he steps out of the classroom.
He turns his attention to me, startled to see me waiting for him.
I flash him a friendly smile as I introduce myself. "My name is Siren Mizumi. It's nice to officially meet you."
The way he smirks at me gives me butterflies. "Yeah, you're that new girl, right? The one that just joined Class A?"
I nod happily. "It looks like we're going to be training buddies for the next couple of weeks. I was wondering if you wanted to walk to the training grounds together?"
He smiles shyly and rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah, I guess that's okay..."
"Great, see you later then! I'll meet you outside your class's dorm!" I tell him before walking back to my own dorm building my classmates. I'm so excited for this afternoon. I can't wait to show off what I've learned.

When my class gets back to the dorms, we are surprised to see Mr. Power Loader waiting for us. He is holding a case that looks like the ones my classmates use to hold their hero costumes. My eyes widen as I realize what happening.
"Is that what I think it is...?" I ask.
"Yes. Your hero costume is finally done. Go try it on before your training session," Mr. Power Loader says, handing me the case.
"Need any help?" Ochako offers. I nod and she follows me into the bathroom.
My costume consists of a long-sleeved bodysuit that I wear underneath the costume itself, which is a black and blue one piece that covers the rest of my body. I top it off with black boots and a blue choker.
It had taken me forever to come up with this design, and I had relied on Deku a lot to help me figure out what I wanted.
The legs are a little too long and costume is skin-tight, but I feel good about myself. If it weren't for the constant physical activity, I would have gained some weight from the sweets Sato has been teaching me to make.
I step away from the mirror, covering my mouth and trying not to cry as I stare at my reflection. I barely recognize myself, and I've never been so happy in my life as the reality of my future hits hard. This makes it official. I'm living a dream that I wasn't allowed to have for so long...
My friend notices my reaction and panics, thinking something is wrong. "Are you okay?"
"I look like a hero...Ochako, I'm going to be a hero. This makes it feel more real," I sniffle, trying to compose myself. This is not the time for tears, even happy ones. I can't wait to show this off to the rest of my class.
"I'm ready to go out now. Will you please go hype me up?" I ask.
Ochako beams. "Have you picked a hero name yet?"
I have to bite my lip to keep my smile from widening any further as I nod excitedly, finally revealing my new identity.

Ochako steps out of the bathroom, smiling brightly as she calls for everyone's attention.
"I am happy to present the Mermaid Hero, Aquamarine!"
I shyly step out of the bathroom, nervous for everyone's reactions. I walk to the middle of the room then turn around slowly, giving my class the full view.
"Looking good, Aqua!" Kaminari calls out, grinning proudly.
"Feeling good, Chargebolt!" I respond, grateful for my supportive best friend. It took some time for things to stop being weird between us, but I'm really happy that we've gotten really close over the last couple of months. I've gotten comfortable around him, and I've told him a few things about my past that I would be too ashamed to admit to any of the others yet.
The room erupts with cheers and compliments. I giggle and strike a few poses to show off a little more as I get more comfortable with all those eyes on me.
"Okay, that's enough messing around. You have training to get to," Power Loader says.
"Yes, sir." I say as I stop doing my little happy dance. "See ya later guys!" And with that, I happily jog over to go meet up with my training buddy.
