"Well, there she is..." the perpetually bored-looking boy says as he notices the excitable new girl waiting outside for him.
He waves his goodbyes to his classmates and they wish him luck as he walks outside to meet up with his new training partner.
"Hey, Shinso!" Mizumi greets him excitedly. "You ready?"
He sighs but gives her a small smile. This girl is full of energy and way too cheerful, he thinks. "Mizumi, right? So, are you excited?"
She happily walks by his side, a cute little spring in her step. "Yeah, I can't wait to be a real hero," she squeals. "Before we get started, let's talk Quirks. I'll go first if you want."
He nods and listens quietly as she gives him the run-down of her abilities. "And your Quirk is Brainwashing, right? That's so cool. It's the perfect power for a hero to have. Just imagine all the lives you could save with it!" Mizumi says excitedly.
Shinso's tired eyes widen and he almost loses his cool composure. He has been told his power was cool, but he's used to people saying it's a perfect power for a villain to have. He had gotten so used to people being intimidated by him, but this girl is not afraid of him at all. His hand goes to the back of his neck and he smiles nervously. "You're not afraid of me? You don't think my power is scary?"
Mizumi looks at him, genuinely confused. "Nope. It's kind of hard not to trust someone who is working so hard to be a hero, don't you think?"
She has a point and he knows it, but won't admit how much he appreciates her optimism and trust. He keeps his hands in his pockets, listening as she keeps babbling.
"Besides, you don't even look like a villain," she continues. "I know I don't know you very well, but I can tell you're a hero."
Shinso smiles to himself. What's with this girl? How can she be so blindly trusting? "That kind of thinking will be your weakness. If you're not on guard, someone is going to defeat you. How do you know I'm not going to hurt you?"
Most people tense up when Shinso talks to them, but Mizumi remains completely relaxed. "You're a hero, so I'm trusting you with my life. If you purposely do something bad, that's your fault, not mine. But I don't think you will. I think you're too good for that."
She has way too much faith in him, and it makes him a little uncomfortable. More than that, it makes him feel bad for what he knows he is going to do to her during their training. And she has no idea what's coming...
