The room erupted with cheers as the figures joined hands, closing off the circle, leaving the markings on the floor with an ominous glow. The circle illuminated the room, making the candle's light look insignificant. They started chanting in an ancient tongue, one he had not heard before, though there was something about the rhythm that sounded familiar, a slight pattern ringing in his ears. He felt a strange bubbly feeling inside his stomach, he started to count his breaths, slowly, in and out, in and out. It was at about 246 breaths when he realised he couldn't see anyone anymore. It was just black, and a strange feeling of weightlessness intertwining itself with his body.
"Fools"
The voice echoed around his ears, dancing inside his head. It came from everywhere and nowhere.
"Fools they are. They know nothing of our purpose for them."
"Do we tell him?"
"Patience. Let him ask first."
The two voices stopped, they were dead silent. He wondered if they were going to say anything before he realised that he should probably say something.
"Oh... umm. Hi?"
His voice was shaky, some part of him still didn't believe that what the listeners were saying was true, but... either he had gone mad or, there was actually some freaky space gods up in the sky.
"He speaks."
Two tall cloaked beings with masks dissolved from the darkness, causing Grian to stumble back in surprise.
"Wh- who are you?"
There was no cockiness in his voice, only fear, pure fear. His whole body shook before the beings in front of him. They were at least three times his size and were divinely crowned with a strange shaped halo on their heads.
"We are the watchers."
"We have long waited for the day you were brought to us."
"For too long, we have only watched you. Now..."
"We will tell you the real story."
"I have no need for an explanation! I want to go home!"
Grian's voice cracked with the last word, what would his mother and Pearl do if he didn't come back home. They might think that he was dead or missing. Would they go looking for him? Would they mourn him?
"Oh hush child. You're not going to die, and as for your family, well... they'll be fine."
"My family!? How did you know-"
"We don't just watch kid, we just choose the name cause it sounds cool."
He couldn't believe them. He was standing before ancient gods, and they were acting like it was another classic Tuesday morning. His whole life might have been building up to this and this was the reaction he got?
"Shut up Xara! You're making him feel bad."
"Am not!"
"Just get to the point!"
"fine!"
The tallest figure, now identified as Xara, stepped forward and bent down to reach Grian's gaze.
"Your eyes... They look just like mine... and your wings, they're perfect... And to think that those lousy followers actually did what they were meant to do! This is perfect- your perfect! Finally, we can be complete!"
"Yes! It's like I can sense Xelqua here with us, using you as the carrier of his power... it's incredible!"
"... Wait- so, can you please tell me what's happening?"
Hello! This is my first author's note. I'm sorry this is a short chapter, I've been really busy with school stuff I guess. I'll try to make the next one quicker!
