(For The Win-Heavy Thoughts)

The alarm was annoyingly ringing and Maya couldn't help but snort. Next to her, Carina covered her ears with the pillow, letting out a groan.

"Spegnila." she complained.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll turn it off now." Maya said, searching for her phone on the nightstand. She finally took it and turned off the alarm, breathing in relief at that newfound silence.

"Grazie a Dio.". Maya turned to her wife and giggled. Carina was staring at the ceiling, clearly mentally cursing at the alarm. She had never been a morning person, after all. Maya kissed her shoulder, sweetly.

"Good morning."

"This isn't a buongiorno at all. I wanted to sleep." Carina replied, pouting.

"Me too." Maya responded, rolling on her back. She yawned and got up, then got dressed, under Carina's sleepy gaze.

"Are you excited to go back to work?" the Italian asked.

"A bit nervous." Maya confessed. "But yeah, I'm excited too. Just sad I am leaving you girls alone until tomorrow."

"We're gonna be alright." Carina reassured her.

"Yeah, I know." Maya said. "But I'm a bit jealous.". The brunette chuckled and rolled her eyes, jokingly. Maya smiled at her, amused. Soon, however, her mood shifted and she looked serious again.

"Listen, I know we already talked about this, but... Are you sure you don't want to go back to work too? I know how much your job means to you and maybe I can..."

"Bella, breathe." Carina stopped her rambling. "I talked to Teddy. Keira is doing better and as soon as possible I will go back to work. For now, Meredith asked me to work with her and Bailey on a way to improve surgical treatments for pregnant women." she explained.

"Meredith? I thought she was working on a cure for Alzheimer."

"I didn't really asked her, but I think something happened while she was in Boston and she had to drop her research or something like that. It's a pity, I know what it meant for her.". Maya was about to say something, when she saw the time and jerked. She was decisively late. She took her backpack and rushed to the door, probably running faster than how she did at the Olympics.

"I love you!" she exclaimed, without even turning around. Carina burst into laughter and shook her head.

"Ti amo anch'io!" she responded, but her wife had already left. She let out a sigh and locked the door, then proceeded to prepare herself breakfast. She put the moka pot on the stove and took a pack of biscuits out of the pantry, then sat at the table and waited for the coffee to be ready. She poured it into a cup and slowly drank it while eating some biscuits and watching some news on TV. She then decided to work a bit and so she sat on the couch with her laptop and some papers. At half past nine she realized it was time to wake Keira up. The teen was sleeping more and better and even if it was clear she needed to rest, both Maya and Carina had agreed to help her set a regular schedule and prevent her from oversleeping. The Italian entered the girl's room and smiled at the sight of her sleeping. She looked unusually peaceful and the thought of waking her almost broke Carina's heart. But she had to, she was aware of that.

"Bambina, it's time to wake up.". Keira whined and turned around, causing the italian to giggle. "Bambina, it's half past nine. You can sleep in the afternoon."
