I've failed you
(Seether-Truth)

Maya crossed the threshold, exhausted. She had just been through one of the most tiring shifts of her life. She let out a sigh and headed to her bedroom. Carina was still sleeping, a pillow between her arms. Maya smiled at that sight and sat on the bed, to admire the wonderful human being next to her.

"Buongiorno." the Italian muttered, stirring a bit and turning to her wife, her sleepy eyes full of love. "What time is it?"

"It's still early. I've just come home." Maya answered. Carina yawned and sat up, leaning against the headboard.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"I'm just tired. It's been a hell of a shift."

"I thought you were on desk duty." Carina said.

"First of all, desk duty is tiring." Maya replied. "And well, no, Andy asked me to be on aid car duty today after talking to Diane. This way I can gradually go back to active duty, without feeling too overwhelmed."

"But?" Carina asked, sensing there was more Maya wanted to say. The blonde took a deep breath and bowed her head.

"Tonight there was a huge fire in one of the poorest areas of the city. It was a mess, really. I lost a girl, she was few years older than Keira. It was... It was tough.". Carina didn't say anything. She wrapped her arms around her wife and gently cradled her, her chin on her shoulder.

"I'm happy I'm home. I'm happy I'm here with you and Keira. I love you so much, Carina."

"Ti amo anche io, bambina." the Italian responded, leaving a small kiss on her neck. Maya turned around and leaned in, letting out a moan when she felt her wife's lips on hers. She found herself laying on the bed, Carina on top of her.

"Wait, Keira might be awake"

"This means you must be very quiet, bambina." the doctor claimed, with a smirk.". Maya was about to reply, but her wife nibbling her neck prevented her from doing so.

"Carina, I..."

"Shh, stop talking." the doctor shushed the blonde, a finger on her lips. Maya gulped, her eyes lost in Carina's dark irises. The Italian kissed her, with unexpected sweetness. Soon, however, the kisses became more and more heated and Maya could feel Carina's hands and lips everywhere on her body, marking her, owning her, freeing her from the weight of the terrible night she had just endured, making her feel at home. And she couldn't be more grateful for that.

When Keira entered the kitchen, she found Carina sipping some coffee, sitting at the table.

"Good morning." she greeted the woman.

"Good morning." Carina responded. "I prepared some pancakes, I don't know if you feel like eating them, but here they are."

"Oh, great! Thank you, I'm starving!" the girl exclaimed, with enthusiasm. She sat at the table and started eating, under Carina's tender gaze.

"I'm happy you're finally feeling better." the doctor stated.

"Yeah, way better. Gosh, you should have seen Maya's face the other day, she was so sure she had poisoned me.". Carina let out a giggle, trying to imagine her wife panicking over her almost nonexistent cooking skills.

"You're lucky it was just a bug, you have never tried her lasagna."

"Nope, and I don't want to.". Keira said. "Can I ask you a question?" she then asked, all of a sudden.
