MINGI
yesterday
mingi sat anxiously on the uncomfortable couch, seonghwa sat beside him gently patting his knee in a comforting manner.
"your parents have been processed, we just need you to answer a few questions." the policewoman said. she sat behind a desk with another officer who was standing off to the side.
mingi swallowed.
"does he have to? hes been answering questions and telling you guys everything thats happened. why does he need to stay?" seonghwa said.
"sir i understand your worry but we're just doing our job. after this there will be no more questions." the woman said.
seonghwa was about to protest when mingi tapped him and shook his head.
"its fine hwa." he said, then turned to the officers.
"so just to confirm... your mother sat there and watched everything happen, then left. you also said this as well as other events have been happening since that incident?" the woman said, looking down at her clipboard then up at mingi who nodded, feeling ashamed and embarrassed.
although mingi knew there was no reason for him to feel that way, he couldn't help but have those thoughts because at the end of the day males being touched wasn't something taken seriously.
you'd either get made fun of and outcasted, or overly pitied. mingi didn't want or need either.
"alright, thank you. theres one more thing, cps will be in here shortly to talk to you. have a good day, mingi. and i hope you'll feel better." the woman said before her and the other officer exited the room.
it wasnt long before a woman with a soft smile and round cheeks walked in.
"hello, song mingi right?"
mingi hated this. "yes."
"and who's this?" she gestured to seonghwa.
"im a close friend." seonghwa answered.
the woman hummed, "how nice of you to come support mingi. my name is kim seoyoon."
ms. seoyoon opened a folder and skimmed through some papers.
mingi shifted in his seat, the couch was really becoming more and more uncomfortable by the second.
"you attend wave high and you're one year away from graduating, correct?" she asked.
mingi nodded.
"so, since you already gave the statement on what happened theres no need to have you do it again. since we see that its not safe for you to live with your parents, we got in contact with a relative to take you in until you turn eighteen." the woman said.
mingi frowned. the only relative he knew that would take him in lived miles away, like, on a whole other continent.
mingi and seonghwas eyes followed seoyoon as she went to open the door, and mingis eyes widened. there stood his aunt, mingi hadn't seen her since he was seven.
she was in an abusive relationship and when she finally got out, she decided to move to jamaica. thats where she met her husband and had two kids, a third on the way from the way her stomach poked out of her t-shirt.
mingi got up as sohee went to hug him. "mingi, oh my gosh. why didnt you call or text?" she sighed.
it felt good to be hugged, though it felt like he couldn't properly reciprocate it, he awkwardly wrapped his arms around her. "sorry." he mumbled.
sohee shook her head and gave him a smile.

the ride over was just as quiet and awkward as mingi expected. yunho seemed timid and spoke like each word might take mingi out.
after arriving, mingi muttered a small "thank you" before getting out and closing the door.
navigating the building wasn't much trouble, he walked into the cool room and despite having a jacket he felt chills. he never liked offices that seemed to try and make people overly happy, though this one was much cozier, just too cold for him.
"hello, song mingi yes?" the woman said. she was tall and had braids that were pulled back into a low ponytail. her skin was a rich and pretty chocolate color. if mingi was straight hed definitely go for her.
"yeah." mingi nodded.
"take a seat." she smiled.
mingi nodded and sat down on the velvet couch, it was way more comfortable than the one from yesterday and even joongs. he rubbed his hand on the cushion as the woman sat down in front of him and crossed her leg over.
"im dr.williams, but you can call me marine if thats more comfortable." she said.
mingi nodded, then looked up at her.
"so what's going on? we can take it slow and just do a little at a time or,"
mingi should've been embarrassed at how fast he spilled everything out.
"i have a huge crush on my best friend, yunho, and i've been hiding it for years. one day he ditched me for his girlfriend, which i mean i get but she's horrible.. a week later my dad raped me and began sexually assaulting me along with the abuse i was already going through. when it happened i didn't know who else to call but yunho, so that's what i did."
"he comforted me, then one thing led to another and we ended up sleeping together. after that he ghosted me, then a few days later we met up and he told me that he didn't want to see each other anymore. everything just reached a breaking point so i.. i attempted. yunho was the one who found and stopped me though, and told me how much he needed me. i'm just—i'm so so very confused and hurt. on top of all that, im moving to jamaica in a week and i don't know what to tell him." mingi blurted out.
"wow, thats a lot to unpack. but first, are you okay?" she said.
mingi was about to lie but realized how pointless it would be. "no."
dr. william nodded and wrote something down, that clipboard made him self conscious for some reason.
"lets start, hmm?"
mingi nodded, because all he wanted was to feel normal again.
