Bright sunlight shone through the small rectangular window almost near to the ceiling on the wall showing a small glimpse of something that only came once a day if it was a good day.

Rays of the bright light landing on a small spot on the concrete floor with the room dimly lit and it was a clear sign that it was a start of a new day. It also meant that it was morning, his favorite part of the day.

The walls looked brighter instead of the gloomy grey that loomed over him in shadows when his sunlight dissapeared for the day. It was worse when the sun decided to not show on a certain day leaving the room darker in the morning and the shadows of darkness inching closer to his hunched up position near the spot the sun usually shone through.

Yet today was a good day and he wasn't going to waste precious day time by thinking of the bad days so he quickly crawled towards the small patch of sunlight and closed his eyes at the pleasant warmth from the beaming light. It really was a good day, a warmer day.

He rubbed his arms to try and take in the warmth but the prickle of pain made his fingers shake as he rubbed more gently at the bruised skin under the brown tattered shirt that clinged too tightly to his thin body but at least it was better than the shorts he had to wear that felt like a second skin to him at this point with how the ugly grey colour clung to his thin and bruised legs that ached from the cold but the sun that made his skin tingle underneath with comfort made it a bit better so he pushed his knees further into his chest as he looked up through the tiny window.

It was the only thing that he loved about the 4 grey walls that kept him inside with his mattress and bucket. It wasn't that he was ungreatful for what he was given but he yearned for more time with the sun or just a bigger window to sneak a peak of where the beautiful golden rays came from. He didn't ever complain about his clothes or the lack of environment or even the days he was skipped out on a meal. He didn't complain about the bruises that coloured his sickly coloured skin and he definitely didn't complain about the lack of water, when it rained he at least had that to live off even if it made his stomach twists into knots.

All he really wanted was to catch more sunrays but it was impossible since he was banned from leaving the basement room his father deemed the safest for him to be in for the world and for him. He was always told he was different from the people outside and it was too dangerous out there for a boy who would be mistaken for a monster by the sheer look of the large scar running down the apple of his right cheek to corner of his mouth amd not to mention the monsterous mark of a heart marking his left temple which is now hidden by long dirty black bangs almost reaching his eyes.

He knew he wasn't made for the outside world and he had come to accept it even if he had fought it in the past but he had to learn the hard way that complaining would only bring more harm to him. It was in fact how he had gotten his long scar which is what his father told him happened when he tried to escape and someone on the outside tried to kill him.

To the world outside he was nothing human in their eyes and his father was his protector from the cruel world hiding him for his safety and providing him with all he needed and he could get. A small voice inside of his head felt wrong with that thought wondering why he told him the people outside would harm him but his own father and protector had harmed him on multible occasions.

No, he shouldn't question it

The young boy let out a deep sigh and basked in the light pushing the thoughts to the back of his mind to just take in the light for a bit. If he missed out on engraving the heat and comfort from the limited light then he would return too quickly to the dark grey walls surrounding him leaving the shadows nearing to closely to the weak limbed boy.

"Just a small while....thank you sun for shining so brightly today" The boy whispered and a small smile formed on his lips turning ever so slightly into a heart shape that was also a sign of a cursed feature his father hated of him from differenciating him from the outside world people. His eyes opened in slits with dark brown eyes shining brightly with the rays lighting them up.

"Thank you....I hope you stay longer today" With those last words he looked at the window beginning of his day in his special spot just seeking the comfort and warmth for as long as the sun gave him. He didn't want to beg selfishly hoping the sun didn't stay away the next day too but for now all he needed was the sun shining brightly on him.

Soon the room would only exist of 4 grey walls keeping the young boy inside but even when that time came he held onto the strings of hope for the sun to appear just as fast as a night can pass with a good rest.

The sunrays of his life....his happiness

His hands gripped around his stomach as he gently pushed the empty plastic plate next to the door. The food filled his stomach as much as it could and he sighed wishing that night didn't have to come so fast but the beautiful golden light was already replaced by the pitiful night's sun that was called the moon.

His father had already come for the second time of the day to give him his food so he knew the darkest time of night was approaching fast which made him dig his fingers into his sides right under his ribcage that felt a bit fuller than a month ago when it was winter, his father hated coming on nights in the winter which he understood since it was so icy cold and there was probably a lack of food his father could gather for them both. The winter also blocked away the sun for too long on rainy days and really dark days so he had to agree it wasn't the best time for either of them.

With saddened eyes he looked at his special spot that was dark and mixed in with the dark shadows that crawled up the walls forming monsters hidden in the dark. He crawled more into the corner aa he gently rubbed at his skin hoping for a bit of self comfort as he rested his head against his knees which he pulled up to his chest.

"I'm sorry I don't like you moon....I hope you understand that I just want the sun to come back soon. I hope the walls brighten up tomorrow early again..." His voice was barely a whisper in the small room but it held so much loudness to him in the silent room so he hoped his words could be heard and that the sun returned as quickly as possible.

With a large yawn he closed his eyes and layed down on his side curling up more into himself to keep in the small amounf of heat he got from holding himself. He imagined the tiny window in his mind and it was the last thought that brought the faintest curl of the corners of his mouth before he fell asleep blending into the shadows of the night.
