1 hour later

"So, Mom, I've been thinking about it, and I feel it would be wrong not to have you at the wedding," I said.

"Well that's good to hear." Mom said.

"It would be surprising if you and Dad managed to get along there without causing a scene," I mumbled, intending only for Erika and me to hear.

Erika shot me a look that silently told me to stop talking for the moment.

"Did you say something?" asked Mom.

"No, not at all," I said, taking a bite of my turkey.

"How is the wedding planning progressing?" inquired Francis.

My phone began to ring, and I glanced at the caller ID.

"I'll be right back; I need to take this call," I said, rising from my chair and taking my phone as I stepped out of the dining room.

I picked up the call, and a voice came through from the other end.

"Hey Sammy, do you have a moment?" Griffin inquired.

"Of course, I am. Why is it important that you called?" I inquired.

"Well, I have good news and bad news," Griffin replied.

Damn...

"Hit me with the good news first," I requested.

"The San Francisco Giants are prepared to offer you a substantial contract," he informed me.

"How much?"

"A tenth-year contract worth seventy-nine million dollars," he declared.

Wow, just wow...

"What's the bad news, Griffin?"

"The issue is they plan to trade you because they can't afford you, and they need to sign other players."

"This is utterly ridiculous."

"I'm sorry, but your second option is to accept a three-year, eight-million-dollar contract to stay with the team that drafted you."

I laughed and shook my head. "Griffin, tell them they can kiss my ass if they think I'll accept that insulting contract. I'm okay with being traded," I said before hanging up the phone.

I returned to the dining room, feigning ignorance of what had transpired, and took a large gulp of my drink.

"Is everything okay?" Erika whispered.

"Yes, everything is fine, but I'll tell you later," I whispered back.

"Okay," she replied.

"I have been wondering, have you guys though about getting a prenup?" Mom asked.

She can't be serious if she thinks that will happen.

"Why would I need a prenup if I trust Erika and even with money as well?" I questioned.

"Actually matter of fact did you do the same thing with Francis?" I asked as well.

"No she didn't and Valerie it doesn't matter if they sign an prenup or not because he trust Erika." Francis said.

"Thank you." I responded.

"I know but I don't want him to make the same mistake like I did." She says.

"Yeah marrying my dad was an mistake to you wasn't it?." I questioned. "It is really crazy for years that I still don't know why you two divorced and I moved on from it but now I think you are the problem."

"I am not the problem." Mom said.

"Oh really because Dad doesn't fucking do the thing you are doing now and also thinking that my relationship will be like your failed marriage is the most crazy shit ever."

"I do not think that Sammy."

"Oh really? Because if I say Sarah probably acts like a better mom than you, how you would react to that shit.....oh yeah mad and probably jealous but guess what I don't predict the future but all I know is that the only person I will be with until the day I die is Erika." I stated.

11:23 pm

I pressed the doorbell three times and a few minutes later the door was opened.

"Sammy how old do you think I am?" Grandpa asks.

I chuckled. "Sorry to ruin your sleep but I really need to talk to you."

"Alright come in." He says.
