Chapter 36

Darkstorm padded along Morningstar as they made their way to the island. The gathering was tonight and this would hopefully be Darkstorm's last gathering as the deputy.

In three sunsets he will kill Morningstar and he already knows how to. The death berries didn't work so he'll have to lead her to the twoleg place.

First he will invite her on a walk and lead her to the garden with that dog he's seen around whenever he's on patrol. Once she's close enough he'll kill her.

While she's losing her life he'll drag her to the fence and let the dog finish off his useless leader. Morningstar's call disturbed him as he looked to see what she was calling him about.

They have arrived at the gathering spot. He quickly climbed the branch and followed Morningstar as they made their way to the hallow.

The smell of riverclan and windclan blew over to Darkstorm signaling they arrived first. He jumped from the branch and padded over to the rock the other deputies sat.

Once he got to the rock Thunderclan arrived and mixed with his clan and the other two. ThunderClan's deputy sat with them and mewed her greetings.

Once he settled down he noticed skunkpelt, Willowfrost, and the riverclan warrior who he remembered is called Brokenclaw. The windclan deputy noticed him and nodded.

"Hello Darkstorm where is Chippedclaw?" Darkstorm held his breath as he broke the news of the red toms death. "He died I take his place as the deputy now."

Skunkpelt mewed her congratulations to Darkstorm and apologized for the past deputies death. Willowfrost looked at him with suspicion.

"Your young but I suppose shadowclan would prefer a young leader." Darkstorm looked at the tabby she cat awkwardly before speaking.

"I guess but Morningstar will remain leader for moons to come." Willowfrost shrugged and began to talk with skunkpelt. Darkstorm looked at Brokenclaw and shrugged.

"Hey you don't happen to know anything about Thunderclans deputy right?" The brown tom looked at him and shrugged. "I never really get a chance to talk with her."

Darkstorm nodded and sat straight when Robinstar called for the gathering to begin. "Riverclan would like to go first." The other leaders nodded in agreement as Robinstar announced Riverclan news.

"Fishstar has joined starclan, I am known as Robinstar with Brokenclaw as my deputy." The clans cheered for the new leader bit Darkstorm noticed how riverclan was awkward with their cheers.

Ignoring it he listened as Robinstar announced the rest of the news. "Fish is plentiful no new kits but we are still strong." The clans murmured in approval.

Robinstar stepped back as Stonestar went next. " we have two new warriors joining us. BlackIce, and Featherstep have earned their warrior names."

The clans called out the new names and waited for the rest of the news to be announced. "Prey is running well and it has been peaceful."

The clans nodded with approval as Smallstar went next. "We have a new warrior. Welcome Snowpelt, she's joining us as a warrior." Darkstorm looked in ThunderClan's group to look for the warrior.

He spotted a white she cat looking around embarrassed as the clans called out her name. "We are finding Prey to be quite plentiful and no threats have appeared in almost a moon."

The clans spoke in whispers as Morningstar went last to announce clan news. "I bring news that Chippedclaw has passed away." Darkstorm looked at the clans curious about what they would do.

The clans immediately took a moment of silence for Chippedclaw and listened for the name of the new deputy. "My new deputy is Darkstorm."

Darkstorm felt his pelt burned underneath the gazes of the other clans as they studied him up and down. The clans soon cheered for him.

He soon felt confident when he looked through the clans and spotted familiar cats. Greyfur, Deerfur, Flowertail, Thornfur, and Tigerlilly.

The clans settled down when Morningstar lifted a paw and went on. "The forest has been generous with the prey this leaf fall and we pray to starclan is stays that way."

The clans murmured in agreement. Fishstar spoke up as Morningstar finished her news. "It would be a waste to leave when the moon is this bright."

The other leaders nodded in agreement as Stonestar spoke up. "I suppose we can all catch up." The leaders purred in agreement as they started to talk with eachother.

Darkstorm padded away from the other deputies and padded over to ThunderClan's group. He was quickly tackled by deerfur who he wrestled with for a bit before collecting themselves.

"You did it! Your the deputy of your clan." Darkstorm nodded with excitement as Flowertail, Tigerlilly, and Thornfur padded over. "I guess I shouldn't pick a fight with you now."

Darkstorm looked at Thornfur and chuckled at his remark. "Yep as the new deputy you shouldn't fight me anymore." Thornfur rolled his eyes as he sat by his clanmates.

"Honestly I was a bit surprised when Morningstar announced that you were the new deputy." Darkstorm looked at Tigerlilly with surprise and sighed.

"I admit I was also a bit surprised when she announced I was the new deputy but I had to accept the role no matter what." The Thunderclan cats nodded in agreement and looked at him in surprise.

Confused Darkstorm turned to see the ginger fur of Robinstar. "Oh hello Robinstar how can I help you?" The riverclan leader looked around before speaking.

"I'm proud that your deputy Morningstar mentioned she had two lives left. I'll be ready for when your leader Darkstorm." The tom dipped his head and quickly left to talk with a Windclan she cat.

Darkstorm turned back to his friends and shrugged. "I guess a few are ready for me to become leader." Flowertail nodded as she groomed her fur.

"It'll take some time to get use to that fact but you'll make an amazing leader." Darkstorm purred in embarrassment as he looked around.

"I suppose I'll make a great leader. But for now let me enjoy my final moments as a regular warrior."
