Chapter 41

Darkstar woke up once again in his den with a hole in his heart. It has been a moon since he last saw her. His heart ached for her no matter what.

Was this how blackpelt felt when he lost Cloudfur? No this was different. His father had to wait moons till he saw hi mate again. Meanwhile Darkstar could see her whenever they met.

Every sunset since their fight he visited the tree hoping to see her and apologize but she never visited it. Her scent was fading from the spot and Darkstar regretted it.

But he wouldn't let that stop him from leading his clan to greatness. He got up from his nest and saw Woodheart leaving with Orangepaw for training that day.

Firepaw was padding by with a few herbs and maplenose was bringing wet moss to the elders den. Bonefur, and Shrewleaf both moved in when they saw the gray fur on their muzzles.

Darkstar padded away and left the camp to see if Tigerlilly visited the spot. He was determined to make things right even if she abandoned him.

When he got to the tree he saw it was rotting and the flowers surrounding it were wilted. There was no fresh scent of her making pain flow through Darkstar once again.

Did he really hurt her that bad? Shaking his head he started to walk away however paw steps were heard from the bushes. His heart warmed up hoping it was Tigerlilly.

However to his disappointment it wasn't Tigerlilly but instead it was Owleyes and Willowfrost. The tabby she cat noticed him and looked at him. "Hello Darkstar is everything ok?"

He didn't really like the she cat but he had to acknowledge her no matter what. "Nothing really just looking for prey where are you guys headed?"

Owleyes looked him up and down his yellow eyes full with intensity. "Smallstar has died we're going to the moonpool so Willowfrost can receive her nine lives."

Darkstar dipped his head for the fallen leader. "Well Willowfrost may starclan light your path on the way." Willowfrost murmured her thanks and padded off leaving Darkstorm and Owleyes.

"Tonight is the gathering I shall see you there." Darkstar nodded to the medicine cat and watched as he disappeared after Willowfrost.

Sighing in defeat he left the area and went hunting to take his mind of Tigerlilly. He caught a bird and a frog but still felt empty without the she cat.

He returned to camp and placed his prey on the fresh-kill pile and left to go and rest in his den hoping that whatever was going on with his heart would stop.

He soon fell asleep and woke up in a field of red flowers. Darkstar looked around and saw Tigerlilly standing by two kits. The kits made Darkstar well up with love.

He slowly padded over to the kits but stopped when they both faded leaving him and Tigerlilly behind. He looked back at the she cat with pain.

She got up and left him behind in the field. He ran after her but no matter how fast he ran she was always ahead of him. She soon ran into bushes causing Darkstar to push himself.

He ran into the bushes but felt the ground dissappear underneath his paws. He opened his eyes and saw he was back in his den. He felt his pelt warm up and left his den to get fresh air.

He saw his clanmates all chatting and sharing news. Seeing how everything was ok Darkstar relaxed and sat besides his den entrance and began to groom him ruffled fur.

When he finished he went to the fresh-kill pile and saw Firepaw padding over. "Hello Firepaw how's it going so far?" The ginger tom looked at him with excitement.

"Everything is so mysterious. I learn about a new herb every day and so many secrets about starclan are being revealed." Darkstar purred in agreement as he picked up a bird.

Firepaw took two lizards and flicked his tail in goodbye and padded back to the medicine den. Happy about how his clan was doing so far he padded back to his den and began to eat.

He ate the bird and took one last glance to his clanmates before licking his muzzle to clean it. Once he finished he got up and began to think about who would go to the gathering.

Looking around he decided to allow, Mousecoal, Orangepaw, Lemurstorm, Wolftail, Raccoonclaw, and Frostfury to go to the gathering.

He padded around and told the cats who were going to the gathering to get ready. Orangepaw was the most excited with the gathering since this would be his first gathering.

Once the sun began to set Darkstar called for the cats going to the gathering to follow him. They left the camp when everyone was there and made their way to the gathering spot.

When they got there Thunderclan was already there. He was determined to see if Tigerlilly was there but once again to his disappointment she wasn't there.

Seeing how she wasn't there Darkstar sighed and padded over to the rock and took his place by Willowfrost. She gave him a glance and chuckled.

"Hello Darkstar how is everything in Shadowclan?" Darkstar rolled his eyes and looked at her with curiosity. "I take it the ceremony went well?"

The she cat nodded and held her head up in pride. "I am now known as Willowstar." Darkstar dipped his head and was about to speak but was interrupted when Windclan and Riverclan both arrived.

Robinstar, and Stonestar both took their places on the rock and sat in silence. Darkstar ignored what was going on and watched as Willowstar yowled for the gathering to begin.

"Would it be all right if Thunderclan goes first." Darkstar nodded and watched as the other leaders nodded in agreement. The she cat nodded and began to announce Thunderclan news.

"Smallstar has joined Starclan making me the new leader of Thunderclan." The clans yowled with cheers for her. She waited for the clans to quite down before continuing.

"However we also had to exile one of our warrior's."
