Amelia 16yo
Amelia sat quietly in her room, headphones on, the soft hum of her mother's music soothing her as she scribbled in her notebook. The dim glow of her fairy lights cast a gentle warmth, making the room feel like a safe haven. It had been her refuge since her mom, Billie Eilish, had started dating Sofia. Amelia was still adjusting to the changes Sofia brought into their lives.
At first, Sofia seemed charming, winning over Billie with her confident demeanor and striking looks. But when Billie wasn't around, Sofia's mask slipped, revealing a side that only Amelia saw—a side that was cold and cruel.
Billie was on a short tour, leaving Amelia alone with Sofia for the weekend. Amelia dreaded these moments. With Billie away, Sofia's behavior grew more hostile and overbearing. Amelia tried to stay out of her way, keeping to her room as much as possible.
This afternoon, as the sun dipped low, casting long shadows through the windows, Amelia's door swung open. Sofia stood there, arms crossed, her eyes narrowing as she surveyed the room.
"What are you doing?" Sofia's voice was sharp, slicing through Amelia's sanctuary.
Amelia pulled off her headphones, looking up timidly. "Just doing some homework."
"Homework?" Sofia scoffed. "This place is a mess. Your mother would be ashamed to see how you're living. Get up and clean the house. Now."
Amelia hesitated, feeling a mix of anger and fear. "But I have a lot of work to do. Can I clean later?"
Sofia's eyes flashed with anger. She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a menacing whisper. "I said now. Or do you want to see what happens if you disobey me?"
Amelia's heart pounded in her chest. She stood up, trying to hold back tears. She moved past Sofia and started tidying up, her hands shaking as she picked up clothes and straightened furniture.
Sofia watched her with a smug expression, leaning against the doorframe. "Maybe if you did something useful around here, your mother wouldn't be so disappointed in you. You're such a burden, Amelia."
The words stung, cutting deeper than any physical blow. Amelia's vision blurred with tears, but she blinked them away, focusing on the task at hand. She couldn't let Sofia see her cry.
Hours passed, and Amelia worked tirelessly, cleaning every room under Sofia's critical eye. Finally, exhausted and emotionally drained, she returned to her room. She collapsed onto her bed, her body aching and her spirit broken
When Amelia finished cleaning, she retreated to her room, shutting the door softly behind her. The silence of the house was overwhelming, the pristine cleanliness a stark contrast to the chaos in her heart. She couldn't support this any longer; the weight of Sofia's cruelty was crushing her spirit. Tears blurred her vision as she stumbled to the bathroom, closing the door with a trembling hand.
Sitting down on the cold tile floor, she felt a profound sense of isolation and hopelessness. The razor blade she had hidden away felt like a last resort, a desperate attempt to find some semblance of control amidst the chaos. With shaky hands, she started cutting deep, each slice a silent scream for help that no one seemed to hear.
Time passed in a blur of pain and sorrow. Eventually, Amelia stopped, the blood mixing with her tears as she curled up on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. She wanted her mommy back—the one who had always been there for her, who had held her close and whispered words of comfort when she was scared. The mom who seemed so distant now, ensnared by Sofia's manipulation.
When Amelia finished cleaning, she went back to her room, desperate for a moment of peace. She closed the door and sank onto her bed, hugging her knees to her chest. Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to process what she had just endured. But before she could catch her breath, Sofia's voice rang out, sharp and demanding.
