Amelia sat cross-legged on her bed, her phone balanced on her knee as she giggled into the camera. Her girlfriend, Lila, was smiling back at her from the other side of the screen, her hair half pulled into a messy bun. They had been talking for hours, as usual. To Amelia, it never felt like enough.

"Baby, you have the cutest laugh," Lila said, grinning widely.

Amelia's face flushed. "Stop, princess! You're the cute one," she insisted, brushing her hair behind her ear. "Honestly, I don't know how I got so lucky."

"I think I'm the lucky one," Lila shot back, winking. "I mean, look at you. You're, like, perfect, my love."

Amelia blushed even harder, her stomach fluttering in that familiar way. She lowered her voice to a whisper, even though she was safe in her room. "You're gonna make me blush so bad, baby. What if my mom comes in and sees me all red and stuff? She's gonna know something's up."

Lila laughed softly, her eyes sparkling. "Well, what would she think? That you're hiding some big secret from her?" she teased.

Amelia rolled her eyes dramatically. "She probably thinks I'm just FaceTiming one of my friends like always. But you're not just any friend, you're..." she paused for a moment, her heart swelling. "You're my girlfriend. And I don't want them to find out yet. It's too soon."

Lila's smile softened. "I get it, baby. I don't want to rush anything either. We'll tell them when you're ready. I'm happy just being with you, even if it's our little secret for now."

Amelia beamed at that. Lila always made her feel so safe, so understood. "You're the best, princess. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"You'd be fine," Lila said, though there was a hint of playfulness in her voice. "But I'm glad you don't have to find out."

They both laughed at that, the kind of easy laughter that made Amelia's chest feel light. She tucked her legs underneath her and laid back on her bed, staring up at the ceiling but still holding the phone close.

"I can't wait to see you tomorrow at school," Amelia said, her voice dreamy.

Lila sighed. "I wish it was already tomorrow. I hate being apart from you for so long. It's like, hours feel like days when I'm not with you."

Amelia's smile widened. "You sound so dramatic, my love."

"I'm serious! You should see me pacing around my room when we're not texting or FaceTiming. It's like torture, baby," Lila said with an exaggerated pout.

Amelia laughed again, covering her mouth to stifle the sound. "I'm the same way, but we make it work, right? I mean, this... us, it's worth it."

"More than worth it," Lila replied softly. "You're everything, Amelia."

Just as Amelia opened her mouth to say something back, she heard a knock on her door.

"Amelia, dinner's ready!" her mom's voice called from downstairs.

Her heart skipped a beat. Billie had perfect timing, as always. Amelia sat up quickly, glancing nervously at the door. "Okay, Mom! I'll be right there!" she called back.

She turned her attention back to her phone, her eyes meeting Lila's. "I've gotta go, baby. Dinner time."

Lila pouted again, this time more genuinely. "Aww, but we were just getting to the good part."

Amelia grinned. "I know, but I'll text you later. You know I'll be thinking about you the whole time."

"Okay, fine. But only because you called me 'my love.'" Lila smiled again, leaning closer to her phone screen as if she could kiss Amelia through it. "Bye, baby. I love you."
