Unhinged Love

CHAPTER 22

I am not someone that usually runs away from their problems. I know they never disappear. you just need to find a way to deal with them so that they won’t come back to bite you in the ass. Which is why I have asked to meet up with Mbulelo. I don’t like how we ended things. I need to straighten things up before moving on. I have asked him to meet me at the beach. Talking while staring at the water can be calming.

He arrives a few minutes later and we take out shoes off before we walk to the Alkastrand beach. It is not as busy as it is during festive season. There are just a few people walking around and two people are swimming. He tries holding my hand but I shake my head. We are not going back there. We stand on the sand and stare ahead at the calm ocean with minimal waves.

“I called you here because I need your honesty.” I lower myself to the ground and he follows suit. “I am not happy about how things ended between up. I am not here to fight you or try to fix our past relationship. I just want us to part on good terms and that will start by you being transparent with me all about everything.”

He sighs. “I met Nomfundo at Backstage and we hit it off. She was very cute and sexy. I went home with her and, well one thing led to the other. In her mind, we started dating after that but she was just an easy lay for me. Even so, I did not mistreat her. I bought her things and gave her money. We had unprotected sex a couple of times and the day that I met you, I was coming back from her place. I hadn’t broken up things with her. I only told her off after I met you at Zula Beach. That’s when she went a bit crazy. She used to come to my place unannounced but sometimes she didn’t find me.

“On the day that we saw her at the Parking lot, she informed me about the pregnancy and I did not believe her. She told me how far long she was and when I did the math in my head, I knew she was telling the truth. I told my father about it and he said I should tell you. Keeping things from you might drive you away. If only I had listened. On the day of the interview, she called crying about pains. i took her to the doctor and later she was transferred to the hospital. I couldn’t leave her. if I had and something happened to my child, I wouldn’t have forgave myself.”
I take a deep breath. Demanding the truth doesn’t mean that you will like what you find. This thing of engaging in unprotected sex with someone you don’t know is a fuckin gamble. Yeah, it is nicer when it’s skin to skin, but one has to prioritize their safety. I had one encounter with him unprotected and although it was nice, I regret it. “Thank you for being honest with me.”

I wish I had listened to my father and done it sooner. I wouldn’t have lost you.” Yeah, your father is a wise man. I know that you hate me right now, but is there a chance for us in the future?”
I shake my head. “No offence to your age mates, but I think it wouldn’t have worked out even if you hadn’t lied. You are still young. You are still going to make mistakes and you deserve someone who is your age. Who will understand how things work and who is as intellectual as you.”
He chuckles. “I don’t know whether to feel honoured or insulted right now.” I laugh. Yeah, I just insulted him because of his age.

“I am at a point in my life where I don’t wanna date for fun or exploring. It’s either we are fucking and relieving stress with each other, or we are getting married after three months. My life doesn’t need relationship drama that people always complain about. I need stability.”

He nods. “I hear you and I am sorry that I ruined our chances. But I would like to say his before I disappear from your life.” I keep quiet and look at him. “You don’t have a life outside your work. Your life literally revolves around Healthy Eats and your colleagues who are also your friends. Do you have friends outside work? When was the last time you did something for yourself?” I frown. “No, calm down. I am not fighting or coming for you. I may be young, but you are also young. You haven’t reached 30. You don’t have a child, you don’t have a family that you need to take care of. There is only you. Now can you please stop working so hard and start living? Your dreams have come true. Now what? Don’t be those successful people in the movies who are constantly at work and gets set for dates by their colleagues.” I laugh and take a deep breath.

“I love you and I know I fumbled you, but I wish you nothing but the best in life. Hopefully in 10 years, I will be worthy of your love.” He states with a smile.
“You will still be younger than me.” He laughs and shakes his head. “But thank you for this.”
“I know that we can never be friends but if you ever need a favour, don’t hesitate to ask.”
I slightly shake my head. “I think I will pass. Nothing annoys a current partner like an ex coming to ask for a favour. Since you have dished out a life advise, I would like to do the same for you. You didn’t give Nomfundo a fair chance. Try being in a relationship with her without seeing her as your cum bucket. Maybe she is your soulmate and maybe she is just what you need in your life.”

He scoffs. “She is Cray-cray and a bully.” He argues and I laugh.
“She wouldn’t have fought me if she didn’t have feelings for you. Give the poor girl a chance. She might surprise you. Who knows? Maybe next year you will be inviting us to your wedding.”
He snorts. “I am not promising anything but I will try and be open minded. Do you wanna go somewhere and grab a bite?” i shake my head.
“I need to think about what I want to do in my life.”
He grinds and stands up. “Touché. Now do you mind giving me a hug before I disappear?” i smile and stand up. I give him a hug and he perks my lips. “I am going to miss those lips, and that ass and that body.”  I giggle. “Damn, I lost a good thing, didn’t I?”

I chortle. “Yes, you did. Bye Mnguni.” He kisses my cheek and then walks away.

He was right about one thing though. I don’t know what to do with my life now. I have finally accomplished my life dream. Now what?
