I shouldn’t be here. I really shouldn’t be in this room with Melisizwe’s parents and Mbulelo’s grandparents. This is wrong in so many ways. I have long realized that Melisizwe and I’s relationship was wrong on many levels but only now I am realizing the extent of it. It would have been better if he was just a married man from nowhere, This is my ex’s father. I shared fluids with Mbulelo and now I am sharing them with his father. And what is worse is that I enjoy his father more than him. Hell is where I am going and I have made my peace with that.

“Who is this?” Mrs. Mzimela asks.
Melisizwe clears his throat. “This is my future wife, Hlengiwe Mabuyakhulu. And before you ask anything, I will tell you everything. She dated Mbulelo before me and they broke up. I didn’t go after her while she was still in a relationship with Mbulelo. I waited until after they had broken up before I went for her. She is not to be blamed in all of this. I am at fault. I created this. I did this and my son landed in a hospital because of me.”

“Then she shouldn’t be here. She doesn’t owe us anything. We are here to talk to you about your family, not about you and her. So, she should go.” Mr Mzimela senior states and I actually agree with him. I shouldn’t be here. Melisizwe likes doing things his way.
Melisizwe turns to look at me. “MaNdiyema, please go and wait for me upstairs.”

I nod. I know very well that I am leaving. I will just leave using the garage door. I just need to steal one of the gate remotes. Being in this house is making me very uncomfortable. “Okay.” I glance at his parents. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr and Mrs Mzimela.” I smile before getting up.
“It is a pleasure to meet you too MaNdiyema.” Mr Mzimela senior responds before I leave the room.

I first head to the kitchen and prepare breakfast for everyone. I was raised right. It doesn’t take long for me to be finished with eggs, bacon, mushrooms and sausages. I leave everything covered on the table and then head to the bedroom. I take my bag and one of Melisizwe’s car keys. Luckily it has the gate remote attached to it. I slowly make my way to the garage and out the driveway. One of his cars is parked outside. I assume it’s the one that he used this morning. I climb inside and drive out of the property. One of the nicest perks about an expensive car, it doesn’t make a lot of noise when it turns on, not like Vusi’s vrphaa from the hood. 5 minutes later, a call from Melisizwe comes in and I almost laugh. That was fast.

“Donda.” I answer and I hear him chuckle.
“Even if you say ‘owami ngedwa’ I won’t be charmed.” I laugh. “Manje where did the foreign car take my woman? The car can go, but I need my woman back here. The same woman who is not allowed to drive because of her ankle. So, please tell the car to come and drop off my woman and then it can leave.” I continue laughing. My God. This man is hilarious.

“I am fine now, Mnguni and I needed to give you and your parents some space. I will be back soon. You guys still need to go to the hospital.”
I hear him sigh. “I don’t like this, Hlengiwe. Last night you were practically paralyzed and now you are Khayi Mbau, driving a Lamborghini around town. I don’t like that. I promised your brother that I will take care of you. This is not taking care of you.”

Ncooh. He is such a carer. “Mnguni, I will be fine. I am just going to Umhlanga. I will come back soon.” And soon, I mean evening. I will sleep and then head back home tomorrow morning. I just need to ask my brother to come and fetch me.

“Fine. But if you are not back here in three hours, I will come wherever you are.”
“Mmm, so bossy.” He laughs. “Bye my love.” I hang up and take a deep breath.

I search for a salon nearby and decide to go to Aura salon at Park Square. I uninstall my weave and relax my hair. I also do gel manicure and pedicure. After that, I walk to Milk and Honey and my mouth waters as soon as I enter the bakery. The cakes look mouth-watering and enticing. I buy a whole cake and a cupcake on top. I then drive to Gateway and go watch a movie at Ster-Kinekor. In the middle of the movie, I receive a text from Mnguni saying he is at the parking lot. This man really can’t stay away from me. They really meant well when they said you shouldn’t give him the whole cake. He will go crazy. I just tell him that I am still busy and he should get busy with something.

When the movie is over, I walk out and tell him where I am. He tells me to come to Samsung store. He is a Samsung guy by the way and I totally understand. Those phones are more convenient and user friendly. And you don’t have to pay for everything. Kanti with Apple, you have to pay for even sneezing near it. I get to Samsung store and immediately spot him being assisted by one consultant. I walk over to him and he smiles when he sees me.

“Baby, they have a special here. The S25 Ultra. It’s buy one get one free if you are a couple.” The consultant laughs while I chuckle.
“Mnguni don’t lie. And you are not going to buy a phone worth 30k for me. I will not allow it. If ikushisa imali, you are free to buy me a watch.” I tell him and he laughs, raising his hands in surrender.

“Well I tried.” He turns to the consultant.
“Don’t you want to know about the amazing features this phone has?” The consultant asks me and fifteen minutes later, Mnguni comes out of the store with his bank balance short of R70K. Could never be me Hun.

“So, how did the meeting go?” I ask as he takes my hand.
He sighs. “My mother is a bit disappointed in me. My father is just excited about the possibility of me settling down again. We went to visit Mbulelo and he is doing okay. He woke up but he was still a bit hazy from the medication. I will go see him later on and hopefully talk to him but I don’t wanna overwhelm him.”
I nod. “I also need to talk to him, so I will go with you. But if he is not strong enough, I won’t say anything.”

“Understandable. You look beautiful by the way.” He smiles at me and I blush. Nothing beats being complemented by your own man. "I almost didn’t notice you with that big forehead of yours.” He kisses it and I laugh.
“Wow, Mnguni. Wow. And you don’t see me complaining about your big feet.”

He laughs. “Okay. Enough. I don’t have anything else bad to say about you.” I snort. “Let’s go eat Lunch. Thank you for breakfast by the way. It was really delicious and the parents loved it.”
I smile. “Tell them it is a glimpse of the kind of makoti they will get should you marry me.”
“And that will be soon.” He responds in a serious tone.
“I am kidding. Nina nidlaliswa ngemali. Anyways, is Zama the one who called your parents?”

He nods. “I understand she was worried but she had no right to do that. I am yet to punish her. I try to be very open and loving to my kids but what she did is like betrayal and it won’t go unnoticed.”
“Just don’t go overboard with the punishment.”
“Noted, stepmother.” I roll my eyes.
