Dino and Christy went to the same school. But Dino had to walk to school, and Mr. Jonson took Christy by car. When people asked why they treated Dino and their daughter differently, they said it was Dino's choice. Dino didn't argue with them. Instead, he made some trouble at school, so Mr. and Mrs. Jonson had to go to school every time Dino did something wrong. On those days, Mr. and Mrs. Jonson always punished Dino after he came home. But he was used to punishments. Most of the time, the punishment was to scrub the whole house floor. Mr. and Mrs. Jonson used a cane to discipline Dino when he was little. But as he grew up, they were a bit scared to use the cane against him.
Dino couldn't wait until he turned 18 and could leave this horrible house.
While Dino was walking to the house, a man came towards him. He wore a black suit.
"Hello, young man. Do you know where Mr. Jonson's house is?" he asked.
Dino felt suspicious about the man. He looked like he was going to cause trouble for the Johnsons.
"When you go down the street, you'll see a yellow two-story house. It has a garden with lots of flowers. That's the house," Dino said.
"Do you know them?" the man asked.
"Yeah, kind of. Why?" Dino asked.
"I have something to give him. I'm actually from his office. It's a valuable thing. Do you think you can pass it to him if I give it to you?" the man asked, looking around suspiciously.
Dino thought it was an excellent chance to get revenge on Mr. Jonson. He decided to take whatever the valuable thing was from the man and not give it to Mr. Jonson.
"Yeah, sure," Dino said.
"Can you come with me? It's in my car," the man said, and Dino agreed and followed him.
"By the way, my name is Luca," the man said after they came near his black SUV. The man opened the door, and Dino still couldn't see what was inside the car.
"It's nice to meet you, Dino Lombardi," the man said, and Dino looked at him with surprise. He was surprised the man knew his name because he didn't tell him.
Suddenly, someone came from behind, covered his face with a fabric, and everything went black.
Dino felt a slight headache when he woke up. He looked around and saw he was in a room. It's not an ordinary room. It was a massive room. There were vast pictures on the wall. And there was a beautiful chandelier. The walls were garish white, and the bed he was lying on was comfortable like a cloud.
"Sorry about what happened before, Mr. Lombardi," Luca, standing near him, said.
"Don, he's awake," Luca said, and Dino realized that Luca was a bodyguard.
"What's going on, man? Why am I here?" Dino asked with a hoarse voice. He felt like he needed some water. His throat was dry.
"Do you want some water, Boss?" Luca asked. Dino wondered why a man who looked like he was in his 40s was calling him boss.
"Are you insane, man? Why the hell are you... yeah. Give me some water," Dino said. And Luca gave him a bottle that looked like a face.
"Is this Acqua di Cristallo water?" Dino asked with surprise.
"Yes, boss. Sorry, boss, do you wish to have another brand? We only have those bottles right now. Because Don only use those brands," Luca said, and Dino felt like Luca was speaking Greek.
"Whatever, man. It's just water," Dino said and drank the water from the bottle. He felt the water was incredibly smooth and silky. He looked at Luca with a suspicious look while drinking the water.
"So, why am I here?" Dino asked Luca.
"Don will explain to you," Luca said.
"Who's this Don guy?" Dino said, and he heard the large door to the room open, and a man who looked like he was in his mid-30s came in. He gave Dino an intense look. Then, another three guys with the same serious look came in. It was clear two of them were siblings with the first man. And the other one looked like he was in his 70s. He could be their father.
Luca respectfully gave space to the elderly gentleman.
The elderly gentleman touched Dino's chin and lifted it to examine Dino's face.
"Boys, what do you say? Does he look like Pietro?" the old man asked, and two other guys chuckled, except for the first guy.
"Welcome to the family, Dino Lombardi," the old man said.
"What do you mean?" Dino asked, looking at them. The elderly gentleman looked troubled.
"Well, let's let Pietro explain what's going on to Dino, right boys? He's responsible for this," the old guy said, chuckling. Dino thought the old guy sounded cool. The old guy left the room, and the one who could be Pietro looked at Dino nervously. He was a handsome guy and looked like he was the youngest of the three.
"Go ahead, Pietro. Tell him," one of the others said.
"Can you two get the F off for a second?" Pietro said, and the other two looked at each other's faces.
"Okay," the eldest one said.
"Wait. I want a water bottle," the other one said and grabbed a water bottle from the table. It took a few seconds to grab a damn bottle. Finally, the man left.
Now, Dino and Pietro were the only two people inside the room. No one talked, and Dino felt uncomfortable. Pietro looked at Dino with an angry or concerned look. Pietro was handsome, but there was no smile on his face. Dino felt uncomfortable with the way Pietro was staring at him. Pietro's hands were in his pockets. He was looking at Dino like a tiger staring at its prey.
"So, can I leave now, then?" Dino finally asked.
"Leave where?" Pietro asked with an angry tone.
"Home, I guess," Dino said.
"This is your home now," Pietro said and left the room angrily. Dino had no idea why Pietro was angry at him.
