It was the weekend, and Pietro was at home on Saturday.
"Dino, get ready. Let's go somewhere before you start school," Pietro said.
Dino was excited to go out. He wondered what kind of place Pietro was going to take him. He quickly got dressed and came down.
"I'm ready," he said.
"But you need some extra clothes. We are going to do some fun stuff," Pietro said, and Dino ran back to his room to get more clothes. He put them in a bag and came down quickly.
"Let's go then," Pietro said, and both got into Pietro's car.
"Where are we going?" Dino asked.
"We are going to La Cumbre Estates. It's a country club," Pietro said, and Dino had no idea what would happen there. He had never been to one before.
"So, do you like your new phone?" Pietro asked.
"Yes," Dino said.
"Did you check your school website?" Pietro asked, and Dino remembered that he didn't check anything about his new school. He was just watching TikTok girls dancing in short skirts most of the time, wasting time.
"A bit," Dino said.
"So it's a no?" Pietro looked at Dino with a disappointed look. "I thought you were smart."
"I'm your son. Remember?" Dino said. As soon as the words left his mouth, he regretted them. Dino knew his words had made Pietro angry once again. "Sorry," he said quickly.
"You think I'm stupid?" Pietro asked.
"Everyone's saying you're stupid because you were..." Dino tried to explain.
"You know what, I don't regret what I did 16 years ago. I'm glad that I have you," Pietro said, and Dino was surprised to hear that. His eyes locked with Pietro's in disbelief. All this time, Dino thought Pietro hated him.
"I thought you hated me for ruining your life," Dino said.
Pietro looked at Dino. "You didn't ruin my life. It looks like I'm the one who ruined your life," he said, looking away like he was guilty. "And I'm sorry for that, Dino," he said, looking back at Dino.
"That's fine, Papa," Dino said, looking at his hands for no reason. He realized that he had nice-looking hands, and his fingers also looked good. Of course, his hands weren't the best-looking, yet they weren't ugly either. The nails also looked good. He didn't bite his nails. It was a good thing. And he made sure to keep his nails short and clean.
"Luca said you stayed at home every day. I thought you liked to go out," Pietro changed the conversation.
"I like to go out. But it feels boring to go alone," Dino said.
"You don't go alone. You can go with Luca," Pietro said.
"Where should I go?" Dino asked.
"Anywhere a 16-year-old is allowed to go," Pietro said.
"So no nightclubs," Dino said jokingly, but with a deadpan delivery. Pietro gave him a firm look.
"You better stay away from that stuff until you turn 21," he commanded.
Dino was amazed to see the country club La Cumbre Estates. The country club sprawled across a hill outside the city. Lush greenery and a beautiful lake surrounded the country club. The main entrance to the club was grand with tall stone pillars. It had lush grounds with some tall trees.
"Wow, this is amazing," Dino said, still in the car.
"Do you like this place? I'll bring you here often if you want," Pietro said.
"Really, Papa?" This time, the word Papa came to Dino's mouth so naturally.
Pietro gave a genuine smile, seeing how happy Dino was.
"I can't believe this," Dino said, still amazed.
"Okay, before we get out, you better shut your mouth. Don't act like you're seeing this for the first time. Just act normal," Pietro said.
"Okay, okay," Dino said, fixing his face. "I'll do that," he said with excitement.
After they entered, the receptionist behind a marble desk greeted them.
"Good morning, Mr. Pietro," she said, her tone polite and professional. "Welcome back to La Cumbre Estates. We've prepared everything for your visit today. And this must be Dino. We're thrilled to have you both here."
Pietro nodded, acknowledging the familiar surroundings, while Dino looked around.
Before starting anything, Pietro went to the area of VIP locker rooms to keep their stuff. As someone who came here often, he already had his own locker room.
Pietro and Dino entered the locker room, which was spacious and lined with polished wooden lockers, each one personalized with gold nameplates. The room exudes luxury, with plush seating, soft lighting, and a serene atmosphere.
They found their lockers—Pietro's with his initials engraved on it and Dino's beside it. When Pietro pointed out Dino's locker room, he was surprised. "Do I have one too?" Dino asked in disbelief.
"Yes," Pietro said. Pietro hadn't seen Dino this happy before. He ruffled Dino's hair playfully.
Inside the lockers, they found fresh towels, robes, and a selection of premium toiletries. A small lockbox sat securely inside each locker for storing valuables like watches, wallets, or phones. Dino's eyes widened with excitement at the sight of the plush towels and soft robes. He ran his fingers over the fabrics, marveling at the towels as though he had never encountered any towels before.
"Dino, they're just towels," Pietro whispered, looking around secretly to see if anyone noticed Dino acting weird with super excitement.
Pietro carefully placed his items in the lockbox while Dino quickly stashed his things, eager to start the day. They changed into their golf attire, opting for the club's signature polo shirts, and slipped on their golf shoes.
"Let's go, let's go," Dino began bouncing up and down, barely able to contain his joy, causing Pietro to laugh at his son's enthusiasm. Unlike Dino, Pietro remained calm. He was used to visiting places like this, so the country club's luxury no longer impressed him as much. Pietro's enthusiasm grew as he witnessed Dino's unbridled joy.
"Calm down, buddy," Pietro said, putting his shoes on and smiling.
At the first tee of La Cumbre Estates, Pietro and Dino positioned themselves side by side, the morning sun casting long shadows across the fairway.
"Alright, Dino," Pietro said, his voice calm and patient. "The most important thing in golf is your stance and grip. If you get those right, the rest will fall into place."
Pietro took a casual swing, sending his ball smoothly down the fairway. "Alright, Dino," he said with a smile, "let's see what you've got. Remember, no pressure—just have fun with it."
Dino nodded and took hold of the golf club. Dino firmly grasped the club's handle, surprised by how heavy it felt. He set his feet, mimicking the stance his father showed him earlier. "So, just relax and swing, right?"
"Exactly," Pietro replied, stepping back to give Dino space. "It's not about hitting the ball as hard as you can; it's about control. Just let it flow."
Dino took a deep breath, drew the club back, and swung through gracefully. The ball lifted off the tee and sailed down the fairway, landing a respectable distance away. It wasn't a perfect shot, but it was enough for a relaxed game.
"Nice one!" Pietro cheered, clearly impressed.
Dino grinned, pleased with himself. "Thanks, Papa! It's actually pretty fun."
