Chloe stroked Evangeline's hair as she slept. She had cried herself to sleep, and frankly, Chloe was sick of her sobbing over the Disney Princess. Chloe felt bad for her, but at the same time, it was better this way. Evangeline was safer being alone with Chloe. At least that way, nobody could break her heart again. Chloe was only looking out for her.
As she laid in her bed with Evangeline, Chloe mindlessly swiped through a dating app, occasionally offering a second glance, but ultimately swiped left on all of them. There were dozens of potential matches in King County, but none of them spoke to her. Some girls were pretty, some of the boys were handsome, but none of them screamed desperation, like Evangeline did. She was truly one in a million.
Her stars had crossed perfectly to put her in Chloe's sights. Chloe had made sure of it. About three years ago, when Trey started mentioning a girl from work, Chloe immediately knew that she was the one. Who else would put up with someone as annoying as Trey?
Chloe was the one who insisted Trey to invite out Evangeline. They went to a beach and Chloe had set up a plan to get Evangeline alone with her. She was a pretty girl with an obvious weakness, how was Chloe meant to resist her? Even through Evangeline's tough exterior, Chloe read her like a book.
After Trey left with Chloe's ex-boyfriend to go "check out and compare fishing poles", Chloe had Evangeline alone on the beach without any escape. With a bit of beer and heat exhaustion from the summer sun, Chloe ended up getting exactly what she wanted from Evangeline.
Evangeline needed a place to stay, saying it was too cramped in her old house with her brother and sister, and her sister's family. Chloe needed a roommate before school started, so their paths collided. They became roommates.
Who would be better than a hard-working, submissive woman that Chloe could control? Evangeline was the perfect roommate in Chloe's mind.
At first, Chloe wasn't interested in sex with her or dating her at all. She refused any of Evangeline's advances, on the premise of being straight. But, once drugs or alcohol were involved, Chloe made sure Evangeline was blacked out before trying any moves on her. Chloe always remained sober, no matter what Trey and Evangeline were doing. She never put herself in the position to lose at her own game.
Chloe stole dozens of kisses over the years while Evangeline was incapacitated, and on the off chance that Evangeline did remember those moments, Chloe had a cover story. Evangeline was always the predator; Chloe was always the victim. She never got caught.
Rubbing Evangeline's head, Chloe smiled down at her. Three years of hard work finally earned Chloe the position she wanted in Evangeline's life. Chloe is the only person in her life. Trey was out of the picture— at least, for now— and the Disney Princess was long gone. Chloe had her exactly where she wanted her: alone.
Evangeline twitched in her sleep and began mumbling. She reached out her hand, petting Chloe. She was looking for something.
"What, honey?" Chloe asked, leaning in.
"My phone...?"
"What?"
"Give me my phone."
Her whispered, incoherent thoughts annoyed Chloe. She groaned and pinched Evangeline's arm to wake her up. "What do you want?"
"My phone!" Evangeline grumbled, sitting up and holding out her hand. "Give it to me."
"Don't speak to me like that," Chloe demanded, grabbing her phone off the nightstand. She handed it to her, but kept hold of it. Tightening her grip, she leaned into Evangeline. She unfuried her brows and even smiled. "Give me a kiss and I'll give you your phone."
