"JJ! Wake up!" She groaned at his words. "Juniper Jade!" He yelled again, making her immediately jump up. "I'm up! Jeez Dad." She groaned again.
Once he heard she was awake, he made his way into her room, sitting on the edge of her bed. "Dad, It's five am on a Saturday, what do you want?" The now sixteen year old girl questioned. "You wanna come to work with me?" He asked with a cheeky smile. "Is Bobby cooking breakfast?" He nodded. "Then yes!" She jumped out of bed and made her way to the bathroom.
Buck laughed as he watched his daughter walk away. His daughter. It still felt foreign to hear, but it all sounded perfectly to him. JJ Buckley. It was almost like her name was always supposed to have Buckley at the end of it. She was supposed to be his daughter.
JJ came out of the bathroom with her toothbrush hanging out of her mouth. "Pass me the clothes, please." She asked, pointing at the clothes she'd laid out last night. "Thank you." She mumbled, toothpaste dripping down her chin.
He laughed once again, and made his way to his own room to get ready.
The father-daughter duo made their way out of their rooms at the same time, with their phones in hand, ready to go.
In sync, they made their way to the door, placing their shoes on and heading out of the door.
Once they sat inside the jeep, JJ turned to her dad. "Taylor Swift?" He nodded. "You know it." They badly sung on the whole way to the station, the smiles on their faces never leaving.
Once they pulled up outside, Buck immediately began talking to the team about something JJ didn't fully listen too.
"I got another DXA scan, and guess who dropped another half per cent." Buck waved his phone around as JJ hugged Hen and Bobby. "What?" She shot her Dad a confused look.
"A DXA scan measures your body fat. You can see your percentage in every part of your body." JJ nodded like she understood, making Hen laugh. "Oh, yeah? They measure the fat in your head?" Chim walked up to them.
"Hey! It's my favourite Buckley!" He then exclaimed, pulling JJ into his embrace, making her stick her tongue out at the look on her father's face. "Uncle Chim!"
"Ah, see, that would be funny, but we're about a week away from submissions being due for the Hot Days, Smoldering Nights: Men of the LAFD wall calendar, and I'm already at my goal weight, so it seems like my head is clearly working perfectly." Buck flexed, making JJ cringe. "Dad, that's disgusting."
"Do you really need to use that whole title?" Hen wasn't amused. "You could just say "that idiotic, reductive, sexist calendar that insults the dignity of this organisation and furthers the myth that all firefighters are male." JJ laughed, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, that's not any less words." Hen shook her head.
"Come on, it's for charity." Bobby looked at the two women who were staring down Buck. "No. Pops, you too?" Bobby smiled at the nickname.
JJ always joked that Bobby was her 'Pops' because she knew that Buck's parents weren't very nice people. Bobby always shook his head at the nickname, but whenever she called him by his name, it felt wrong.
He was her pops.
"Well, why not? They say a man reaches his sexiest when he reaches fifty." Hen looked at him. "Is that what they say?" She had an 'Are you serious?' look on her face. "That's what they say?" She turned to JJ who shrugged. "Okay, you're both wrong."
"All right? You see, I think sorority houses all across this great nation are ready for a bed Asian sex symbol. It's our time." Chim looked proud before throwing a chip into his mouth. "I think it's great. You know? I like that you're both going up for it."
