The Cobain's were a complicated family. Sophia honestly doesn't remember the last time they were a happy family. Her father had been having constant affairs since she was a child.

But her mother never left.

She asked her mom why as she got older, she wanted to know why her mother stayed with such an awful man. But then she realised, her mother was just as awful as her father.

In different ways though, her mother was never unfaithful, she was just a bad mother.

She was just a bad wife and an even worse mother. And Sophia learnt that the hard way.

Thomas Cobain was a drunk, who slept with many women who weren't her mother. But her mother let him. Amelie Cobain was a drug addict, who spent all of Sophia's college fund on drugs.

But Sophia had always grown up with the horrible people that were her parents. So she never knew different.

Which is why she craved having the family JJ now had.

The two girls had confided in each other at a young age, both of them growing up with awful people as parents. But then JJ met Buck. And her whole life changed.

Sophia resented JJ for having Buck during the first few weeks of their meeting, but when Buck opened his arms for Sophia as well, she realised how much her best friend deserved this.

So yes, Sophia was a Cobain by blood, but she would forever be an honorary Buckley.

Which is why, when she got the tsunami alert on her phone, her first thought wasn't her parents, who had gone to the beach with some friends, her first thoughts were the Buckleys and Chris...

Who were at the pier.

JJ had texted her that morning, saying her plan to use the Diaz boys to get her dad out of bed had worked, and that she and Buck were taking Chris to the pier.

Her blood ran cold, and before she knew it, she was calling Bobby.

He didn't pick up on the first try, but on the sixth, he answered with concern in his voice.

"Sophia?" She sniffled, trying to catch her breath before she responded. "Bobby... They-They're at the pier." She said, taking deep breaths to calm down. "Who is?"

"JJ, Buck and Chris." She sobbed.

Bobby gasped quietly at her words. "Soph, I need you to try and calm down, can you take slow breaths? 4 seconds in, 4 seconds out." Sophia complied, her breathing slowly going back to normal. "Good, that's good."

"Do you think you can get to the station safely?" He asked. "Yeah.. my house is far from the beach, I don't see any signs of water." She looked out of the window.

"Okay, good. Come to the station, we won't be here when you get back but someone will be here to stay with you. It's just so I know you're safe."

"Okay.." She hung up and went outside to her car.

Bobby turned to his team with worry all over his face. He almost looked older than he was, that's how much dread he was filled with at that moment.

He'd lost his family a long time ago, but he'd built a new one since then.

Buck was his son he knew that and everyone around him did too. JJ was his granddaughter, and he was her Pops, as much as the name made him feel old, it was true.

Christopher was as much a grandchild as JJ was. He hadn't spent much time with the boy yet, but he still loved him like family.

He couldn't lose any more of his family. Scratch that, he refused to lose any more of his family.
