JJ waved her arms around and screamed until they spotted her. "HEY! I'M OVER HERE!"
They soon did, and a man who reminded her strangely of her father swam over to her.
"Hey, come with us, there's some paramedics close by, there's a truck for them to transport us to the hospital." He told her, holding his arms out for her.
"Are you hurt?" She nodded, "Okay, I'll carry you the best I can." She thanked him constantly as they swam to the others who waited.
Hope began to worm itself into her chest.
Especially when she saw a woman carrying a boy that looked a lot like.. "Chris?" She yelled. The young boy turned around from his space in a woman's arms. He didn't have his glasses, but he'd recognise that voice anywhere. "Juney?" His voice was small, and it broke her heart.
When they made it to the small part of land, JJ felt like she could breathe. She was finally out of the water. And Chris was here, which meant...
"Where's my Dad?" She asked him. "He was helping people! I told him you'd be safe! But then I got lost." Tears gathered in her eyes.
She took Chris out of the woman's arms and held him close. Her ribs burned and her shoulder screamed at her, but she didn't care.
They were safe.
"I was so scared for you." She cried into his hair. "It's okay June! I took surfing lessons." She let out a wet laugh. "Yes, you did."
They walked for what felt like hours. People kept asking her if she wanted them to carry Chris, as she was on the bridge of passing out, but she refused.
She ignored the agony from her shoulder and continued to hold tightly onto the boy. Afraid that he'd slip from her grip and she'd lose him.
She thought about her Dad as they walked. Was he still out there? Or was he taken to safety?
They soon made it to the trucks to transport them. The man who had saved her, who she now knew was named Derek, ushered her into the truck, Chris still tucked safely in her arms.
She could've sworn she heard Bobby and Chimney's voices. She could hear them giving orders to civilians. But before she could say anything, the truck doors closed and began moving.
When they made it to the hospital, JJ hopped out of the truck, and that was when she saw them.
"Dad? Eddie?" Her voice cracked. "Oh my god." Eddie and Buck raised over to them. "You're their Dads?" Derek asked, getting a nod from Eddie. "They were looking for their Dads."
As soon as JJ locked eyes with Buck she collapsed, losing consciousness as Eddie held onto her.
Buck stared at JJ as she slept in a hospital bed. With the hospital gown and the blanket wrapped around her. She looked so small. So vulnerable, so sad.
Her injuries had been way more serious than she'd thought.
The gash on her head and arm needed several stitches. And she'd had to undergo a small surgery, as her shoulder was dislocated in a way where they couldn't just pop it back in.
Buck continued to stare at her fragile state as his family walked into the room to join him.
When she woke up and locked eyes with her father, her eyes danced around the room in a panic. "Chris?" She tried to sit up, but Eddie gently pushed her back down. "Turn your head." She did so and spotted said boy lying in a bed next to her, soft snores leaving his lips.
