Kara had just finished her meeting with her manager and Jill Ellis. She had good news to share to Kate, and Alex if she didn't know yet already. Kate had class until 3 today, and the team had an early morning practice. She was going to wait for Kate to take her afternoon nap and then break the news to her.
Kara was nervous. She would be going to coffee with Caitlin today, but it would also be the first time Kara hung out with Caitlin one on one. Their interactions have been so limited since coming to Iowa since Caitlin is in the heat of pre season work outs and scrimmages, and Kara having five meetings a day.
Caitlin was also nervous, and it was pissing her off. She never was nervous about anything, but when it came to Kara, her brain could be turned into goo and wouldn't know how to act. She didn't know exactly why.
Kara was driving over to Encounter Cafe, listening to Speak Now (Taylor's Version). Ever since Taylor released it, she had a new understanding for the young album. She hoped she wouldn't relate to the album. Kara, though driving, was fidgeting with the sleeves of the white Iowa sweatshirt that Kate had given her as a welcome gift. If it wasn't the sleeves, she would fidget with the hem of her black Lululemon shorts she accompanied the sweatshirt with. And if it wasn't either, she was messing with the end of her braid. She was nervous, and knew why.
Caitlin on the other hand was driving as well to meet Kara there, listening to Taylor Swift too. Once again, Caitlin had no idea why she was so nervous. That was the biggest difference between the two, one knew why they were nervous and the other didn't. Or perhaps say they were in denial.
Ever since the Eras Tour, Caitlin had found a greater appreciation for the album Lover. And that was what she was listening to, the lighter songs helping her calm her nerves.
Both of the female athletes parked their cars, and hadn't noticed each other until they both reached the front of the cafe.
"Hey, Caitlin," greeted Kara, with a smile. And Caitlin was already going in for a hug. Kara embraced her warmly.
"Hello, Ms. Kara," smiled Caitlin, through the hug. After she pulled away, she opened the door for Kara, which she thanked Caitlin for.
The two ordered their coffees, both coincidentally having the same order and sat down at a two person table by the windows. It was a sunny, breezy day. Perfect weather to admire. Sunlight was shining through the windows into the cafe, making the natural light illuminate the cute cafe.
"So, how has Iowa been to you?" asked Caitlin with a soft smile, after taking a sip of her latte.
"It's honestly so peaceful here," said Kara. "I haven't really had the opportunity to explore the city much because meetings with my manager and all soccer stuff has been filling my time."
