Caitlin Clark was busy in her own head, lacing up her shoes in the locker room of Carver Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes all wore their traditional home uniform, all white. Even from the locker room, the players can hear the buzz in the arena from their loyal fans. There were chants, music being played over the speakers, and the occasional squeak from shoes of players taking some extra time to warm up. Caitlin knew her parents were here, they were at every single home game.

Caitlin had quite a bit on her mind. It was mostly the basketball game ahead, schoolwork, and the people in her life. One main person being Kara. The girl would not escape her mind, especially ever since Kara left for Arizona. It was as if Kara not being in the same vicinity as her only intensified this longing feeling. She felt weird.

But also, what was lingering on her mind, was the date proposal from none other than Connor McCaffrey. The boy was making all efforts and Caitlin oddly liked it. She liked how he complimented her. She liked the attention, and she was willing to give it a shot. So, she said yes to going on a date with him. She had yet to tell anyone, and a sense of her thought that she didn't want to tell anyone. Was it shame? Either way, it seemed a tad bit wrong.

"You good?" asked Kate, her best friend seeing Caitlin with a resting confused face.

Caitlin hummed. "I'm good, lots on my mind though."

"More than usual?" asked Kate. "You just have been so in your head the past two weeks."

"You read me really well, Martin," laughed Caitlin, looking at Kate who was laughing as well.

"It's my job," sighed Kate with a small smile. "Wanna give me a bit so I can understand you?"

Caitlin loved this about Kate, how she saw right through her and how she was the only person who really knew how to have a good understanding conversation on things Caitlin had heavily on her mind.

"Connor asked to go on a date with him."

Kate was looking down at her hands wide eyed , as her elbows rested on her knees. She was taken speechless. "And what did you say?"

"Yes."

Kate knew it. But she wondered why it's on her mind so much, and why Caitlin was acting the opposite of how one would react to being asked on a date. Usually, you'd be excited. However Caitlin was nowhere near that. At least she wasn't showing it.

"Are you excited?" asked Kate. "I mean, you've been kind of talking for a hot minute."

For Caitlin, it felt like they were talking for a long time. And she felt that her lack of effort would've driven him off, but it only made the attention he was giving her grow stronger.

"Yeah, I guess," said Caitlin with a shrug, adjusting her jersey. "I don't know, maybe the date will have me at ease. I just feel a bit weird going."

Kate raised an eyebrow at Caitlin. "Weird going on a date? Or weird about going on a date with him?"

That took Caitlin for a loop, she didn't know. The only thing she could do is pull on the end of Kate's braid, and wrap an arm around her shoulder.

"Enough of this male talk, we have a game to play, Martin," said Caitlin, as the two joined in collective laughter.
