Them: The Butterfly Effect doesn't exist
The Butterfly Effect:...
Early 1990s- the US starts the trend of the 90s pop groups
Late 1990s- South Korea creates Korean groups Seo Taiji and Boys to imitate American pop groups. They are known as Kpop.
Early 2000s- Korea starts making their Telenovela equivalents, which eventually begin the Korean-wave that would later include music as well.
2010s- the US boy groups make a comeback with groups like 5SOS and OneD
2013- BTS is formed as a way to continue this new pop groups trend
2015- I develop an interest in Korean culture thanks to my grandma
In the late 2010s- K-pop reaches the US with music and kdramas. I try to convince my friends they are great, but they ignore me, including Maine.
2020's- Suddenly, K-pop is the coolest thing. My previous friends are listening to all the content, including Maine. She becomes obsessed with them, buys their merch, virtual concerts, tattoos all over her body of them, spends lots of money assisting to their concerts abroad. It's a little too much for me, but I go along with it. Could be a great bonding topic.
2021- Maine joins a BTS Twitter fanclub and meets a girl that likes the group as well. They become virtual besties
2022- Maine visits her virtual bestie in another country
2023- Maine starts ignoring all her hometown friends, including me. Her virtual bestie now visits our hometown. She doesn't tell anyone. She doesn't introduce her to anyone.
March 2024- Maine is invited as a maid of honor to a classmate's engagement party. She looks miserable all the time. It's clear she doesn't want to be there. We also get to spend some time talking and she tells me everything was normal and ordinary in her life. We agree to plan a catching up friends date
April 2024- I text her to plan the date. She ignores the messages. Her other friends also can't get an answer from her.
May 2024- a personal situation is the priority in my life and I forget about the date. She never reaches out on her end.
June 2024- Everything is back to normal in my life, I remember the date so I text her.
July 2024- She answers the text saying we can't meet up because she is on a plane to her virtual besties' country to move permanently and to call her another time. She says it was a quick decision and that she hasn't told many people. A day passes, I call. No answer. Her hometown friends are unaware anything is happening; I happened to know by chance. The friendship with Maine is pretty much over. Her hometown friends have also given up on her. We have been officially replaced by an internet BTS fan.
Safe to, I did see a fallout on our friendship coming. I mentioned it when I returned writing here.
Did I expect it all to start with the birth of boy pop groups and a BTS fan?
...
Never in my wildest dreams.
I promise you all that eventually, I'll give more details on this butterfly effect map. But in the meantime, please let me process what just happened to me. (Also, today is July 11th. The chapter will come out on August 1st. Hopefully, by next week, I'll have a detailed explanation of what happened. If not... this map was enough).
