There's a reason why I gave Darla that fake name. She looks exactly like the Darla from Finding Nemo.
I have known Darla since I was very young. Her aunt married my uncle, and since we were very little, she was included in the family. She was always accepted like another one of the cousins, but I never connected with her the same way as I did with my other seven closest cousins. I know that seven seems like a big number, but my grandparents had 4 children, and my great-grandparents from my grandpa's side had 12. So... you can imagine why there are so many cousins. However, I was raised with 7 of them, and we became like brothers and sisters. When Darla was added, we would accept her, of course, but we wouldn't see her as much, given that she was spending more time with her side of the family.
Now, to get an image of what kind of person Darla was as a kid, let's picture Darla from Nemo mixed with Jeremy's little evil sister from Phineas and Ferb... you know...this one...
She was always getting in trouble, doing mean things, insulting people, bullying others, and much more.
The problem was that when I entered middle school, her parents decided to enroll her in the same school I was, and she ended up making it into my class. Now, for context, some schools give each student a different program, and you get to share a few classes with the same people. My school wasn't like that. My school had the same concept Anne of Green Gables' school had in the late 1800s, where you are assigned to a group based on age, and you keep studying with the same classmates until you graduate.
The good thing about this concept was that your closest friends became added family because of how much time you would spend together (sometimes even more than with your blood family). But the bad part was that you had to endure being with the people you didn't like equally as much.
So you can imagine my face when I was told by my mom "Darla is going to be in your class next year".
Let's also remember that this was middle school. Crazy hormonal changes, lots of dramatic moments, and more and more fire to add to the already raging flame that Darla was.
Darla ended up staying in that school for 3 full years, and let me tell you, it was so annoying. She was a full-on drama queen. I will now number some of the events I remember from her:
