The bell rang, echoing through the bustling halls of Crestwood High. It was the start of another day, yet the air buzzed with a current of something different, an unspoken energy that seemed to crackle just beneath the surface. Cammy Hart adjusted her backpack, feeling the weight of books pressing against her back as she navigated the sea of students. Her friends flitted around her like bright butterflies, chattering about weekend plans and the latest gossip.

"Did you hear about the new student?" whispered Lila, her best friend, as they made their way to homeroom. "Rumor has it he's from out of state and super mysterious."

"Mysterious?" Cammy echoed, half-listening. Her mind was elsewhere, distracted by the swirl of thoughts and feelings that had been building for weeks. It wasn't just the thrill of a new semester; it was something deeper, a sense that change was in the air.

As she entered the classroom, her gaze fell on a figure sitting at the back—a boy with tousled black hair and striking green eyes. Onyx, they called him. He was new, yes, but he carried an aura of calm confidence that drew people in, even if he often kept to himself. Cammy felt an inexplicable pull, like the universe had nudged her toward him.

"Hey, Cammy! Earth to Cammy!" Lila waved her hand in front of Cammy's face, pulling her back to the present.

"Sorry! Just... lost in thought," Cammy replied, shaking her head to clear it.

The day unfolded in a blur of lectures and lunchroom chatter, yet Cammy couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to change. As she passed by Onyx's desk during class, she caught his eye and felt a flutter in her stomach. Was it nervousness or excitement? She couldn't tell.

After school, the sun dipped low in the sky, painting the world in shades of gold and amber. Cammy and Lila strolled toward the park, their favorite spot to unwind after the chaos of the day. Lila was rambling about a party this weekend, but Cammy's mind kept drifting back to Onyx. There was something captivating about him, a depth that made her curious.

"What if you talked to him?" Lila suggested, sensing Cammy's distraction. "You're always saying how boring everyone else is. Maybe he's different."

"I don't know," Cammy replied, biting her lip. "What if he's not interested?"

"Or maybe he's just waiting for someone to make the first move," Lila teased, nudging Cammy playfully.

The thought lingered, swirling in Cammy's mind. What if? She was no stranger to crushing on someone, but there was something about Onyx that felt different. The way he seemed to see beyond the surface, as if he understood more than he let on, intrigued her.

That evening, as Cammy sat in her room, she pulled out her journal, a trusted companion for her thoughts and dreams. Flipping through pages filled with sketches and musings, she began to write.

There's a new student at school, Onyx. He's different. There's a spark I can't quite explain...

She paused, her pen hovering over the paper. What was it about him that felt so electric? The words flowed, spilling out feelings she had kept hidden for so long. Writing about Onyx felt like a release, as if the act of putting pen to paper somehow brought her closer to understanding her own heart.

Later that night, Cammy lay awake, staring at the ceiling, thoughts racing. What if she approached him tomorrow? What if they talked? As she drifted into a restless sleep, her dreams swirled with images of laughter and stolen glances, a dance of possibilities waiting to unfold.

Morning arrived with the promise of a new day, and Cammy found herself standing before the mirror, uncertainty flickering in her chest. Could she muster the courage to talk to Onyx? What would she even say? With a deep breath, she decided that today would be the day she stepped outside her comfort zone.

As she walked through the school gates, the sunlight warmed her skin, and the world felt alive with possibilities. Cammy spotted Onyx by the lockers, leaning casually against the wall, deep in conversation with a few other students. The knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach, but she reminded herself to breathe.

"Just be yourself," she whispered under her breath. With each step toward him, the noise of the bustling hall faded away, leaving only the pounding of her heart. Today was the day she would ignite the spark.
